Surprised nobody has mentioned the Darius Miles/Portland Trail Blazers situation yet. Basically the Blazers are threatening to sue any team that signs Darius and plays him since if Miles plays in 2 games this season it forces them to pay the Luxary Tax because of their past signing of him.

“With all due respect…although the Cleveland Cavaliers have no interest in signing Darius Miles and will not be signing Darius Miles,” Gilbert wrote, “I find your email quite peculiar from two standpoints:

“1. It’s dead wrong. I believe that all 30 NBA teams were and are fully aware of the terms and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement as to which all teams and the NBA are a party to, including the Portland Trailblazers.

“2. Are legal threats through a mass email the best way to circumvent the known potential consequences that could result from the Trailblazers decisions and actions they took with respect to Darius Miles?

“I fully understand the frustration you and your team’s ownership must be feeling in regards to this situation, but a preemptive threat of ‘litigation’ directed at all of your partners through a group email does not sit well with me and seems to be incongruent with the spirit of keeping a ‘fiduciary duty’ and good ‘partner-like duty’ to your ‘NBA joint venturers.’

“I would think there has got to be a better tactic than this one.”

Dan Gilbert is amazing. A few years ago he put a public whipping on Stephen A. Smith after Smith was talking trash about him on TV.

I'm pretty sure the Blazers meant that email directly to Memphis, but basically CC'd the entire NBA. And this issue is much deeper than Darius Miles, it is the fact that Jerry West is still the GM of the Lakers. First Gasol was handed to LA for nothing in one of the most one sided trades in NBA history and now Mephis is basically trying to muck up Portland's cap. Is it maybe because Portland will probably be the main threat to LA the next few years with their core of Roy, Aldridge & Oden? Stern needs to step in, the NBA is becoming the WWE.

Wait. So Memphis is doing this to screw over Blazers for L.A.? Haha. Awesome.

Apparently it's a direct order from Jerry West's nonexistent office in Memphis.

I wonder if the Blazers realize how if no one did sign him after that his agent and himself could probably sue, and win easily, for collusion. Yeah it sucks you have to pay his salary now, but who put the gun to your head to give Darius Miles that long, big money contract?

Have you seen Joe Alexander's video? He has this thing locked up.

Speaking of Joe, have you heard the rumors of a Sessions + Alexander for Conley + pick trade? Memphis would make out like bandits in that deal.

okc up 78-61 on utah right now, and russ is running all over deron williams. 17 points, 2 boards, 5 assists... i love it.

yeah westbrook will be a perennial all-star if he ever develops more of an outside shot. i guess it's possible; rajon rondo was a terrible shooter coming out of college and now he's got a solid mid-range jumper.

okay the sixers just blew out atlanta on the road, then portland and san antonio at home. what the hell is going on?

also, marreese speights has been awesome this year without anybody noticing. he's #1 among rookies in hollinger's PER stat by a large margin, because he's averaging 8 PPG and 4 RPG in only 15.6 minutes per game. he'll probably lose playing time when brand comes back because they're basically the same player, but he looks like a nice pick in the mid to late 1st round.

maybe a few years of crying in their iced-macchiatos will teach those poser pussies to go to [expletive] basketball games if they want to keep their team

boy i'll tell you one thing, watching this young exciting team sure does have me wishing for the good old days of detlef schrempf, kemp's coke habit and gary payton's 12-inch vertical. not to mention all the city-wide apathy and lack of titles

was that the lenny wilkins era sonics that won a title? did wilkins play for the sonics? i think that fact is lost to history because no one ever cared about the sonics unless their power forward was humping a few dozen women

but it really brings back memories of going to watch barry sumpter and bill jones play at wharton fieldhouse.

I moved to the QC after they moved to The Mark, I heard they sold out during the finals that year (don't know if its true). A big difference from when they had only a couple hundred people their final year.

"no one" is exactly twice as many people that will care about the okc thunder in a couple years. oh well, there are thunderstorms in st. louis, so i guess they won't have to change their nickname again.
