I always laugh when I hear players want a new stadium. Especially guys like Marquis and Edmonds, who will be no where near this team by the time that rolls around.

It's not like they're wrong.

The player facilities at Wrigley are pretty much a joke compared to just about any other stadium in baseball.

Gotta take the good with the bad in terms of the intimacy and all that, but they're right.

Actually, the fan "facilities" are pretty terrible, too. But the experience and everything make up for it.

Is it not possible to renovate the player and fan facilities?

Sort of. It would be akin to the 10mm they spent on Yankee Stadium in the 70s - it would only delay the inevitable. Also it sounds like the main problem with the player facilities is a lack of space. A new coat of paint and some tvs isn't going to do much to change that, IMO.

Also, IMO, those who are rooting for Cuban to buy the Cubs (like me) are also essentially rooting for a new stadium to be built sooner rather than later. We all know that Cuban likes to take care of his players. I'd be fine with this as I think the franchise would be better off they separated themselves from the whiny beotches in Wrigleyville and played more damn night games. Plus it would amuse me to watch property values in Lakeview plummet. Thoughts?

I still think they can gut the stadium and rebuild it from the locker rooms up. The biggest hurdle is getting Reinsdorf to let them share US Cellular with them for a summer or two

If all they're worried about is the clubhouse facilities, then that doesn't mean they need a new stadium. Remodel the clubhouse if they absolutely want to, but never get rid of Wrigley.

Besides, who gives a crap about what Edmonds and Marquis think.

I'm sure if Cuban ends up winning the Cubs bidding war, he'll make the clubhouse much more lavish

Part of the problem is there isn't room to make the clubhouses better. I've taken a tour of Wrigley and also one of the Ballpark in Arlington, and I think the home clubhouse in Arlington is probably 2-3 times larger than the one at Wrigley. The visitor's clubhouse at Wrigley is even worse. There isn't room to make those larger without building a new ballpark. The only park with worse player accomodations is Fenway.
