Iowa now up 2-0 at the 7th inning stretch.

Mitch Atkins: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 GO-11 FO. He's thrown just 91 pitches so he should be able to start the 8th at least.

For some reason, Atkins got pulled after 7 with 91 pitches. Justin Berg came in and got 2 groundouts and 2 walks (shocking on both accounts, I know) but Hector Carrasco puts out the fire.

To the 9th, Iowa leads it 2-0. I guess Ascanio will pitch the 9th...

Carrasco remains in, trying to get the 4 out save.

Chris Shelton grounds out. One out.

Nate Gold flies out to RF. Two outs.

John Mayberry walks. Still two outs.

Wild pitch. Mayberry to second base. Still two outs.

Max Ramirez reaches on a fielding error by SS Andres Blanco. John Mayberry scores. Still two outs. 2-1 Iowa leads it.

Craig Gentry pinch running for Max Ramirez.

Wild pitch. Gentry to second base. Still two outs.

Travis Metcalf strikes out swinging. Iowa wins 2-1!

Des Moines Register"]Winning pitcher Mitch Atkins blanked Oklahoma for seven innings and at one point retired 11 straight batters.

"Mitch did a great job," manager Pat Listach said. "He worked ahead in the count and used all his pitches."

Daytona News-Journal"]The Cubs won FSL championships in 1995 and 2000, and were declared co-champions in 2004 when the title series was canceled due to hurricanes.

Daytona spotted Chen a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ty Wright's single to left brought in the first run -- barely.

Tyler Henley's throw to the plate appeared to be in time to get Tony Thomas, but the ball struck Thomas' helmet and bounded away as he scored. Blake Lalli followed with an RBI double off the centerfield wall.

"We've been playing from behind pretty much all series and we knew once we got on top early they would crumble and fall," said Thomas, who went 2-for-4 and scored half of the Cubs' runs. "That just gave us a lot of confidence. It made everybody relax. It took a lot of pressure off us."

Those were more than enough runs for Chen, who didn't allow a base runner until Henley led off the fifth inning with an infield single.

Chen's fastball hit 93 mph, but he successfully kept Cardinals hitters off balance with off-speed pitches. Chen earned the win in six innings of work, allowing three hits and striking out three.
