Who's the next best available player from the 2008 amateur draft or IFA?

Taken already:

Tim Beckham - SS, TB

Pedro Alvarez - 3B, PIT

Justin Smoak - 1B, TEX

Brian Matusz - SP, BAL

Yonder Alonso - 1B, Cin

Buster Posey, C, Giants

Eric Hosmer - 1B, KC

Michel Inoa - SP, OAK

Can't take Crow. It's for a fantasy league. I want the best pure hitter (position doesn't matter) or best available position. More concerned with potential/upside than anything else.

I'd take Smoak over Alvarez barely, but that's me. I think those two are ahead of guys like Alonso and Posey, I'd be concerned about how raw and far away Beckham is. Hosmer is a great prospect, a surer thing than Beckham but again, a HS prospect.

Inoa is only 16 years old and hasn't thrown a professional pitch yet, I'd take every single one of those guys ahead of Inoa (says the guy who has Inoa on his fantasy team).

Sorry, I think I worded that badly. That list of guys were already taken. I can take anyone else from the draft. So Skipworth, the other Beckham, Wallace, etc.

Well, that's zero help to him. All those guys are taken. It's amazing when I went and checked out who was drafted this year how little I liked those not listed here. Lawrie from Milwaukee maybe?

Yeah, SSR, that's the problem I'm facing. I don't really like anyone that's available. I was maybe thinking Wallace. He's supposed to be a Laporta/Gamel type, right? Good bat/no defense?

My bad.

P Brett Hunter - Oakland (7th round)

C Kyle Skipworth - Florida (HS)

1B Brett Walace - St Louis

P Tim Melville - Kansas City (HS; 4th round)

P Shooter Hunt - Minnesota (supp 1st round)

P Christian Friedirch - Colorado

C Brett Lawrie - Milwaukee (HS)

2B Jemile Weeks - Oakland

P Robbie Ross - Texas (HS, 2nd round)

Didn't go with any relievers.

Wouldn't go with any of the IFAs.

Thanks! Why did Hunter drop so far? I know he has injury issues, but 7th round? I'm thinking about going with Skipworth or Wallace and then trying to get Hunter or Melville in the 2nd round. Not big on Gordon Beckham?

#-o Take Beckham first if you can, I'd take him over Skipworth or Wallace. I think I see Tim Beckham and forget his mullet-sporting brother.

For Hunter, it was the injury issues combined with the price tag which was expected to be reflect his pre-injury talent was.

There's a pretty good chance Beckham will be with the White Sox at some point next season. He was an advanced college hitter and should slot in fine at pretty much any MIF spot. If you're in one of those leagues that requires you to have a set number of players on your roster (requiring you to drop someone whenever one of your minor leaguers gets promoted), you might want to take that into account, for better or worse.

If you're looking for younger guys, OF Aaron Hicks (Twins) and RHP Ethan Martin (Dodgers) are both toolsy with good upsides at their positions.

Also, as a point of correction, Brett Lawrie is with the Brewers, not the Twins. He might not stick at C and could end up at 3B or in the OF.

Update again. Last time. Pick one of the following:

Robbie Ross, P, TEX

Aaron Shafer, P, CHC

Ross Seaton, P, HOU

Mike Montgomery, P, KC

Dennis Raben, OF, SEA

Robbie Grossman, OF, PIT

Brett DeVall, P, ATL

T.J. House, P, CLE

Lee Hak-ju, SS, CHC

Opinion? Or if you can think of someone else I'm missing that wasn't a first rounder, supp first rounder, Hunter, or Melville (they were all taken) let me know. I really can't decide.

P Kyle Lobstein - Tampa

P Robbie Ross - Texas

P Brett DeVall - Atlanta

OF Robbie Grossman - Pittsburgh

OF Ryan Westmoreland - Boston

OF Pete Hissey - Boston

P Mike Montgomery, Kansas City

Are my favorites. I'm a huge Lobstein fan and I get the feeling Westmoreland is a bit overrated.

Shafer would be a rather safe pick though.
