I heard this discussed on MLB on XM regarding CC Sabathia. Would the Brewers be better off keeping LaPorta and Gamels and trading Fielder or trading the prospects and keep Fielder?

While they wont be able to sign CC or Sheets for that matter next year, when the time comes, Fielder will be leaving town as well. Especially as a Boras client, and Boras like sending his top clients to big markets like New York and L.A. With Braun, Laporta, Gamels, Gallardo, and Parra, they could be contenders for years to come. Or else they can trade for a rent a player.

Neither. They won't sign Sabathia, and they can get a trade done without Laporta. I'm not that big on Gamel, being that he won't be a ML 3B.

fielder doesn't seem like a guy who's going to have a very typical aging curve. if i were milwaukee, i'd see if anybody viewed him as a future hall-of-famer (or just short of that).

I would too, but you aren't going to do that anytime soon. Not this year, and probably not in this offseason either until you see if Laporta can hit.

yeah, it's not going to be this season, but i'd definitely try to see if i had reason to be confident in laporta this season if at all possible, with an eye towards trading prince in december.

I would keep the prospects, and not trade for CC. Play out the yr (unless you know for sure you can go deep in the playoffs, which isn't guarantee) and look to trade Fielder in the offseason to help fill out the rotation.

But seeing as Milwaukee is about to become stupid, it won't hurt me if they trade their best position prospect for a rental, only to watch said rental leave in the offseason. Then watch your best position player leave via FA in a couple of yrs.
