ok, to elaborate - the Cubs did a really nice job offensively running up Lincecum's pitch count and putting themselves in a position to win the game. Their defense was terrible though. Edmonds needs to be playing left especially if Johnson is in the game. There is no justification for him to be in CF. He is sloooooow and his reactions are not great. Ramirez needs to catch pop ups in fair territory - Soto should not be making that play. And why in the hell did Ascanio dive? What a stupid play! Or did he trip? Finally, Marmol should never have been in the game. He did not get nearly enough time to warm up - not to mention he has been massively overused and is definitely showing the effects. By using him yesterday, he is now not available today I would assume. If Rothschild and Lou cannot figure out a way to make the other guys in the pen useful, this season could unravel in a hurry.

 

Lincecum looks like he is 14 years old. He's not elite yet though simply because he doesn't have the command to dominate deep into games against a team that shows some patience. That pitch to DeRosa was a huge mistake.

they seem to have a lot of little things go wrong via bad luck or bad baseball lately. like not scoring a run on a ball off the top of the left field wall with two guys on.
