If McGehee can hit enough, any way he makes the team as the backup catcher next year, or is he an the type that won't be able to handle it enough to play it even as a backup? Seems like he'd be a decent backup option until Castillo is ready.

He's more of a backup CI that could fill catcher in a pinch.

That's kind of what I was thinking...I really don't want this team to bring back Blanco next year if we can fill the role of backup catcher from within the system. Oh well.

Nice return for Hart. Heck, he only gave up one fly ball.

Just some random impressions from my first Iowa Cubbies games ever:

Hart looked very solid. Too bad the in-game gun was so inconsistent, I have no idea what anyone's velocity was.

Mathes was iffy. Let the first 3 batters he faced crossed the plate, then was solid, then lost it again later on.

Andres Blanco is good defensively.

Piggy sucks.

It was awesome getting 2 7-inning games for the price of one. Especially since my tix were for front row.

i was at the chiefs game last night. in the bottom of the ninth inning, after the chiefs scored to tie it, they had runners on the corners with one out. the pitcher then did the "fake to third, throw to first" move and picked the runner off of first base. everyone booed a lot, and after it quieted down, i screamed "go back to boise" and everyone in my section who knew much about the cubs thought it was hilarious and everyone who didn't gave me a weird look.

I'm instituting a new policy for the DSL games since I know next to nothing about any of the guys down there. I don't know who the bonus babies are, nor do I know what kinds of ceilings and projections they have.

So, rather than play a guessing game and list guys based on age, I'm going to keep it simple. I'll list their box score links, but won't provide a breakdown of the player performances. If there is support for listing certain players, I'd be amenable to listing them.

For now, I'll just stick with scores and links.

If I may make a few requests:

DSL Cubs 1:

RHP Hector Mayora (formerly on DSL Cubs 2) - great in the offseason VZ Parallel League, good start this season.

RHP Jose Tineo - I believe he got a sizable bonus last season

DSL Cubs 2:

RHP Ramon Reyes - 34 K in 24 IP with a 0.75 ERA

Heh, all the pitchers on the DSL Cubs 2 are teenagers and at least 6'1". You'd think the Cubs would have a few intriguing guys out of that bunch, hopefully some will become obvious during the course of the season.
