Mariners fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland.

The Mariners have the game's worst record despite a top-10 payroll, and it's obviously Pentland's fault. He'll know better next time not to overpay for Richie Sexson, Carlos Silva, Miguel Batista and Jarrod Washburn. Also, he never should have traded for Jose Vidro and put together a ridiculous bench that included Miguel Cairo and Willie Bloomquist. And that's glossing over his biggest mistake of all: he saw two lesbians kissing at Safeco Field and did absolutely nothing to stop them. Lee Elia, his replacement, is very capable of putting the fans in their place when he needs to.

Just thought I'd add this:

Miguel Cairo bunted a bases-loaded safety squeeze to lead the Mariners over the Blue Jays on Monday night.

Behold the power of new hitting coach Lee Elia. Clearly he'll be able to harness the majestic Miguel Cairo (.218/.279/.255), and the Mariners will ride his offensive prowess straight to the World Series.

I immediately thought to post this. GREAT post by Rotoworld.

Sometimes that's all I need on a Cub-less day to make me smile.

Corky Miller-C- Braves Jun. 11 - 11:58 pm et

Corky Miller hit a pinch-hit two-run homer as the Braves lost to the Cubs on Wednesday night.

It was Miller's third hit in 33 at-bats this season, so he was probably pumped up in the showers. This could be the only blurb we write about him this season, so we apologize for the mental image of the 250-pounder.

This one was classic.

I dont remember rotoworld being quite as catty in the past.

Oh it's great. You can find one every day now.

For instance:

Carlos Lee-OF- Astros Jun. 14 - 10:19 pm et

Carlos Lee went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Yankees today.

Yahoo!'s box score incorectly identified the blast as an inside the park homer down the left field line at Minute Maid park, begging the question just how many of the players on the field had to drop dead for that to happen. Lee has 14 homers and is now tied for fifth in the National League with 52 RBI.
