In a roto league, here is how the commissioner of our league set up the scoring:

Hits Allowed (H) -1

Earned Runs (ER) -2

Wins (W) 10

Saves (SV) 5

Shutouts (SO) 5

Complete Games (CG) 5

Walks Issued (BB) -1

Strikeouts (K) 1

Losses (L) -5

The fact that hits, walks and earned runs are each penalized while strikeouts are only rewarded with one point makes most starting pitchers a disaster:

Roy Halladay is 3-4 with a 3.29 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. He has -26 points. I dropped him for a relief pitcher.

Aaron Harang is 1-5, but has a 3.09 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He has -67 points. I just dropped him for Justin Duchscherer, who qualifies as a starter and reliever, so I am putting him in a starter spot.

My pitching staff now consists of:

Brandon Lyon

Kerry Wood

Takashi Saito

Jake Peavy (he has +12 points, that's what 4-1 with a 2.22 ERA and 1.03 WHIP is worth)

Tim Lincecum (4-1 with 1.49 ERA, +9 points, will probably have to bench him when he goes negative)

Justin Duchscherer

Brad Lidge

Jose Valverde

J.J. Putz

Rafael Soriano (DL)

thats pretty much why i've sworn off points leagues.

it seems like im the only one who notices the inherent biases towards a certain type of player pre-draft.

but to be fair, couldnt you have quickly perused last years stats and noticed the point distributions heavily skewed against starters- saving you from the wasted picks of peavy, doc, etc?

it was kinda thrown together after the season started, and the commissioner just set up an auto draft after we had five people in the league.
