Daytona wins it 5-4 on an RBI single by Russ Canzler to score Jonathan Wyatt. Darin Downs got a blown save but picked up the win.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Embry-Riddle junior Billy Hootman hit a long home run over the left field fence at Jackie Robinson Stadium in the top of the seventh inning to tie the Daytona Cubs, but the Eagles could not hold on, dropping the exhibition game 5-4.

 

This was the third year the Cubs, the single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, and Embry-Riddle faced off in an exhibition match where both teams used wooden bats and played only seven innings. In 2007, the teams tied 2-2.

 

The Cubs took the lead early, scoring one run in the first and three more in the second on a three-run home run by Darwin Barney.

 

The game was tied in the top of the seventh on the homer by Hootman. He went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

 

The Cubs rallied for the win in the bottom of the seventh.
