It was an auto-draft, so the results are not entirely what I wanted. 11 team roto league, standard scoring (5x5)

C - Geovany Soto

1B - Billy Butler

2B - Howie Kendrick

3B - Miguel Cabrera

SS - Jhonny Peralta

OF - Carl Crawford

OF - Manny Ramirez

OF - Chris Young

UTIL - Corey Hart

BN - Melky Cabrera

BN - Reggie Willits

BN - Todd Helton

SP - Brandon Webb

SP - CC Sabathia

RP - Zach Greinke

RP - Jeremy Guthrie

P - Chris Young

P - Rich Hill

P - Roy Halladay

BN - Adam Wainwright

BN - Tom Gorzelanny

So, of course, I know I need saves, although I'm considering just punting the category, or maybe trading Wainwright or Gorzelanny for saves. But as far as offense, I feel like I'm missing something....anyone give me a hand please?

Is there an IP max? If it's the typical 1250 from Y! public leagues, I'd definitely trade some of that SP for closers and I'd replace Greinke and Guthrie in the lineup w/ real RP (even if they're non-closers - the Broxton's and Okajima's of the world) to cut down on your IP. Otherwise, you'll never get all the starts out of your top pitchers. Might consider trading one of your top 5 SPs, esp if someone will overpay for a name (like Halladay). I'd trade one of Gorz and Wainwright too. Punting saves in a roto league can cost you a lot (not nearly as bad in H2H). Go get a couple mid-level closers that will at least put you in the middle of the pack or so. Or wait for ones to struggle and be quick to put up their replacements. I like your offense, though you're banking on a lot of young guys, obviously.

Thanks for the input. That was a good point, and it does have a 1250 IP max.

I'm currently trying to add Kerry Wood to my roster (we'll see how the waivers work) in place of Guthrie. I'm also trading Manny for Ian Kinsler (probably for a loss, but I suddenly have doubts that Kendrick will be that useful and I don't like Manny's age). And finally, I'm negotiating with someone for either Rafael Soriano or Manny Corpas for a starter.

I'm not too worried about saves, as Sherril and CJ Wilson are on waivers. Plus, about 1/5 of closers change before the All-Star break anyway.

As far as banking on young guys, that's certainly true, but I have a backup option if Butler fails (Helton), and my outfield is pretty deep.

I'm actually having trouble getting rid of players so that I can add Milledge off of waivers! :-k

to start helton

Oh, I'm gonna once the trade for Kinsler is done.

I'd start Helton anyway unless and until Butler shows he's the better option.

I'd also drop Willits. Does he even have a job anymore? I thought the Angels OF was Vlad, Hunter, and GMJr. Unless that's changed, I don't think Willits has much value. If the league is that shallow, trade your extra SPs for elite players at some positions like C, 2B, or SS. I'd try to add some HR and SB at those positions.

I wouldn't drop Guthrie. He should be of some value to some team. With all the SP you have, there has to be a team or 2 that's looking for SP. Use your depth to trade for their best offensive player.
