is this based on performance or affection?

edit: and i'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just curious, because I see one glaring omission if it's based on performance

Ok So Sosa's (98) , well if you took the [expletive] away from him there is no way you would take him over Dawson's (87) not counting his defense!, but in fairness I get your point.

there has to be a better CF year than Dernier's 1984. hell at least a couple of the brian mcrae and corey patterson years had to be better.

rod beck's 1998 and JoeBo's 2003 were both better than lee smith in 1984. and lee smith's 1983 is miles better than all of them.

he might've had a horseshoe up his rear that year, but rick wilkins' 30 homer year blows jody davis' 1984 out of the water.

Dave Martinez in 1987 was probably better than Dernier's '84. Brian McRae's '96 was definitely better.

This is similar to a thread I started last year:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40566&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

You basically had to make a roster choosing one (and only one) player from each of the last 25 years to make your 25-man roster.

Are you just picking best seasons at each position in Cubs history? If so...

C - Hartnett (1930)

1B - Lee (2005)

2B - Hornsby (1929)

SS - Banks (1958)

3B - Santo (1964)

Nah, not necessarily (although I can see why you'd think that). I wanted to go at least somewhat modern era, and was favoring more recent. Not scientific at all.

Those are all good alternatives, Alou was great in (04), i'm still mad at him for game 6 though.

You could also go with Sutcliffe (84) Prior (03) Wood (98) Maddux (88) and I will still take Dernier's (84) just because he and Sandberg provided a good OBP duo at the top of the order. That is always going to be my favorite team until we win it. Sorry, Lee Smith was better in (83) I was just going by memory. Wilkins had a fluke year, I'll still take Jody.
