Appreciate your input "NC" but Tomy, wasn't Ronnie's fielding stats better than Schmidt's? I thought I heard that Santo's numbers were often compared to Brooks Robinson's. I think on the "This Old Cub" DVD, that Brooks says that Ron Santo deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Maybe somebody with alot of bucks (not me) could start a campaign, buying copies and send them to the members of the Veterans committee? That might help.

 

Errors and fielding percentage don't always tell the whole story, but...

 

Mike Schmidt: 313 errors in 2212 games at 3rd, .955 FP%

Ron Santo: 317 errors in 2130, .954 FP%

Brooks Robinson: 263 errors in 2870, .971 FP%

Can't we as fans start the same line of thinking that East Coast writers have about Jim Rice?

 

Let's just start calling Santo the most-feared hitter of his day and see where that gets us.

 

the difference is that santo actually deserves to be in the hall of fame; rice doesn't.

Player B) 14 seasons and excellent infielder: 119.7 WARP3

From what I recall reading Schmidt's jealosy isn't against Santo specifically, but rather the idea of the Veterans' Committee letting anybody in. I remember he made comments to the extent that, if a player wasn't good enough to be voted in by the writers in 15 tries, they don't belong and adding them dilutes the honor for those who were elected legitimately. I'm not sure if Morgan's thinking is along the same lines or not.
