SUNDAY SPECIAL | SPORTS ON THE NET

Greg Tagert's office deep in the bowels of The Steel Yard has a no-frills look.

There's a desk, three chairs and a few lockers to store the RailCats manager's gameday gear and street clothes.

The most expensive thing there is probably the laptop that sits on Tagert's desk and usually has a baseball-related Web site on the screen.

That workhorse computer has become as important a tool for the manager of the defending Northern League champs as a radar gun or fungo bat.

"It's a huge difference now, the way we find players," said Tagert, who has been managing in independent ball since 1995.
