wear cubs stuff and act confused when the rockies take the field

I've always wondered what I would do if I went to a baseball game between two teams that I didn't care about.

In this case, I would probably go and just pretend that it's the world series.

living in dc and detroit the last 8 years, i've done this frequently. i tend to drink a lot.

Yeah I drink and make comments loud enough for people to hear about how terrible D-Backs fans are. Unfortunately they are as terrible as I say and thusly don't really care.

Who cares if they suck? We were 50-31 at home with our mediocre crowds, sellouts don't = wins, so criticizing the fact we can barely sell out is pointless.

Hey what's up mr. drawing bad conclusions...

I said nothing of the quality of the team or the team's home play. I merely pointed out something that you seem to already know which I happen to enjoy doing when I'm at a game I don't care about.

Really isn't a DBacks city/state anyways, sell outs happen across the street at US Airways with the Suns, which is better for me since I have a stronger passion for them.

DBacks have been around for only 10 years, to expect big crowds is pretty dumb..gotta give them 10 more years and if it's still pathetic, then you really know they suck

Oh I agree. The Suns have a fantastic fan base, as do the other established teams like ASU Football and Baseball. The Cardinals fan base is impressive considering how pathetic the organization is.

D-Backs base will grow 10-20 years from now when all the little kids with Gonzo jerseys are adults and can spend a little more cash.

I also think the fans who left the D'Backs cause of letting Gonzo and Counsell walk need to grow a pair and know the situation. We have 4 big prospect OF'ers and then Byrnes for another 3 years now(<--dumbest extension..EVER) When would Gonz-oid ever play? He's washed up, old, and if you follow this team die hard, a prick.

And Counsell..the guy sucks, he got a few big hits for us in '01..but Counsell over Drew? Casual fans are dumb.

I've never been to an ASU football game in Tempe, other then down in Tucson when they played the Wildcats( :D ), but I do know they have a lot of fans here in the Phoenix metropolitan

I appreciate you coming back to the website after the series, and I welcome any and all comments that you may have to add to our discussions....but can you like give it another week or so before you post? It seems like almost yesterday you were here defending yourself and your team as to why the DBacks won't get swept. Ahh those were times with such optimism. Now we are talking about picking up Steve Trachsel options and which mediocre, no patience MI to pick up in the offseason. Actually on second thought, stay and post all you want about your ballclub. I need something to take my mind off our team.

there are tickets still lift? man that is depressing. Probably the thing that pisses me off most about the Cubs going out... good sports fans get the shaft and the fickle 12 people that root for the D'backs get rewarded.

Why do you think the team plays? For the entertainment of the fans.

Are you serious? How in the hell are these games not sold out? I didn't realize that DBacks fans were so scarce/lame.

No, it's pathetic right now that there are still 10,000+ tickets available for the NLCS games. I've ragged on Marlin fans for being bandwagoners back in 2003. But at least the Marlins sold out or were very close to selling out every home game in the 2003 playoffs - they had one game with 61000 and the other 7 home games were 65000+ which included Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday home games in the World Series. And the Marlins did it with a far bigger stadium (about 16000 more seats) and with fans who showed up in smaller numbers during the regular season - the Marlins drew 12000 fewer fans per home game in 2003 than the DBacks did in 2007. The only reason the DBacks sold out the first two games of the NLDS this year was because of all the Cubs fans that showed up.

It's a pathetic display and I don't buy the "they've only been around for 10 years so give them 10 more years" BS.

I'm guessing Cubs fans were the reason the Marlins sold out or came close to selling out NLCS games in 2003.

Then how do you explain them drawing 61000 and 65000 fans for the home games in the NLDS against the Giants?

10,000? Heard on the radio today by our owner that there is only 3,000 left for tomorrow and 4,000 for Friday. Both should sell out, if they sell out tomorrow, cool, isn't going to make a huge deal if it sells out in 10 seconds compared to 4-5 days.

It's better then the 37,000 who showed up game 1 of the 2001 NLCS for us.

I've heard multiple news outlets report somewhere between 10000 and 12000 tickets remaining for the two games. And even if it is only 3000 or 4000, it's still pathetic that they haven't sold out already.

Tons of media outlets have been completely wrong. I was listening to the sports radio here when they had Josh Byrnes come on and laugh at the fact that some were saying 12,000 were left. If they don't sell out, I don't think many are going to lose sleep, unless you're going to keep on going on about how pathetic it is and how others are saying that they don't deserve to be here cause of the fans and the Cubs do because their fans are better..

edit:not trying to be a prick, just think this is blown way out of proportion. IF you've followed baseball, especially the playoffs through the years, it's known the dbacks don't do good with selling tix unless playing a team with a big fan base.

Right, and the thing that people are discussing is how pathetic that is that they can't sell out an NLCS game. That raises a larger problem about the long term commitment to the DBacks.

nobody is saying that the cubs "deserve" to be there - the d'backs do because they played better than the cubs - but it's sad that the small and rather apathetic fanbase of the d'backs gets to enjoy more postseason baseball, but the large and passionate fanbase of the cubs gets another kick in their collective crotch.

Like I said to Raisin, the Marlins drew 61488 and 65464 fans in their two home games against the Giants in the 2003 NLDS. I'd buy that the Marlins selling out against the Cubs in the NLCS and against the Yankees in the WS was partially due to the Cubs and Yankees' fanbases. But I'm going to guess there aren't too many Giants fans in Florida. It's sad that the DBacks can't sell out the NLDS games and the Marlins example is why I don't buy the 'they've never been good at selling tickets' excuse because the Marlins have been even worse at selling tickets over the years.

To get back to the original question, you should go and ask some random people at the game and see how many people on the Diamondbacks roster that they can actually name. I'm willing to bet I could name more players on their roster than a majority of the DBack fans who will be attending these games.
