For the NL Central to suck as much as we think. . . .

Posted

We all would agree the NL Central sucks, or at least appears to suck.

However, I was thinking about the good ol' NL Central and I wondered when was the last time the NL Central had no team in the World Series or NLCS?

2006 - World Champs

2005 - NLC had both NLCS teams and the WS runner up

2004 - WS runner up and both NLCS teams

2003 - NLCS rep

2002 - NLCS team

2001 - NONE 1 round and done for the astros

Of course, the Stros and Cards make up the majority of this. However, one could say that if the past is any indication, The NL Central winner will get out of the first round of the post season.

I'm trying to find positive things :) :)

The funny thing about the NL Central teams....they are not that much off of the "superior" teams in the NL. At least not the Cubs and Brewers. Behind sure but just a few games off.

2001 also had the Cards as the wild card. They lost in 5 games to the eventual world series champion Diamondbacks in the first round, IIRC.

The NL Central winner has about a 1/2 chance of getting out of the first round.
