When I watch Jacque Jones at the plate, I wonder how this guy has ever hit 27 HR's in a season. He looks more like Juan Pierre out there most of the time, swinging at anything and everything. He's falling backwards when he swings.

How has no one helped him fix his swing?

Firing Perry would just give a free pass to the guilty party, Hendry, who has failed miserably at putting together a solid lineup for 5 years now. The team has consistently been bottom half in OBP and runs scored correlates with OBP, which is why they've consistently been bottom half in runs scored (with 2004's measly 7th ranking being the lone exception).

Jim doesn't get it, and that's why the offense consistently fails, and why the team doesn't win enough.

Agreed. Perry at least has them taking more pitches than in the past. When your approach is as fundamentally flawed as the Cubs was over the last several yrs, you need to time to break out.

Imagine being told every day for four yrs, "Be aggressive - swing!", and now all of a sudden being told, "Take it easy; wait for a pitch you can drive; don't be afraid to take a strike." Some of what you are seeing is a transitiional phase, IMO.

I wonder how much it would cost to pry Tony Gwynn away from his perfect job at San Diego State.

Then bring in Maddux as our pitching coach next year and we would have the smartest bench in baseball

IIRC, didn't one time Jones said that he was working with Tony Gwynn with his swing?

I can't recall when it was, but it was when he was in Chicago.
