By most accounts, Griese has been looking pretty bad. I'm pretty sure he's been singled out as one of the weakest performers in just about each report from camp each day so far.

That being the case, it's nice to see Orton taking advantage of it. If Griese is going to wind up being relegated to #3, I'm not sure I even see a reason for him to be on this team.

I agree. Chris Leak is in camp right? Has anyone heard anything about how he looks?

chris leak joins craig krenzel in the "how did he win a national championship? his team must have had an unstoppable defense" category.

for a guy that came out of the womb trhrowing a football, he's just not good at it.

I think I said it earlier, but I just didn't realize how short Leak is. He looks a tad shorter than Grossman. They really aren't giving him many reps in practice, but I was suprised how long his throwing motion is in the drills I watched him.

Anyway, with Orton stepping up his game Leak will probably be released fairly soon, unless something radically changes.

As for Griese's performance, he did the same thing last year. But last year, Orton was looking real bad to me and this year it's a bit different, so I don't know what's going to happen there.

Judging by the zip and accuracy of his passes so far, nobody reported to camp more serious about improving than Rex Grossman. Some of his throws make ones thrown by Brian Griese or Kyle Orton look and sound like Triple-A fastballs in comparison.

Can you link me to where this came from? Just wanna read the rest of the article.

i don't even think he'll be able to make it in the afl or cfl with his long, slow release. i wish him luck, though.

i don't think superior arm strength and pass accuracy have been questioned, just his decision-making and pocket awareness. i'm interested in seeing him improve greatly in these 2 areas.

there's no doubt that he has a much better arm and quicker release than either of his backups, that's not really news to me. rex just needs to improve his approach with the ball down in his hands, he's truly a man among boys in the actual passing category.

Here's hoping he thrives. He's definitely been through the ringer of pressure last year, so that's some experience lots of other QBs will never even know. To be in a Super Bowl with the whole world taking shots at you, and coming through it looking good in camp the next year has got to add something to Rex in the maturity department.

Apparently, Clayton was on Mike and Mike this morning and said the following.

...they were talking to John Clayton about all of the mini camps he has been too. Out of all the teams he has seen, Lions, Packers, Colts, etc. The biggest impression he spoke of was how good the Bears offense looked. He said that Devin Hester looks lik a faster Steve Smith. He said Garret Wolfe and Olsen look good and Grossman looks improved.

Dont usually hear alot of positive coming from ESPN over the bears though i would share.

Has Garret Wolfe practiced yet? I thought he was being held out because of a minor injury?

He practiced Friday, some Saturday morn. He was shagging punts with Devin, and I think they put him in with the 3rd team for a few practice plays. He strained his hammy Saturday morning in the mini practice.

Yeah Brian's been struggling early on. But I remember he did this last year too. I'm really not that worried about a 10-year vet based on the first couple days of training camp.

Huh...that's very different than what the Trib wrote today. (About Orton anyway)

maybe that was just sunday then. they really didnt have the qb's throwing deep down field anyways. orton made a few bad passes, maybe it seemed like he threw more than he did. but griese did look bad. and he wouldnt throw anything more than a five yard pass.

Last year around this time Orton couldn't hit a back in the flat. The improvement from him is noticeable, although I wouldn't want to take it too far. He's still far outclassed by Grossman IMO.

Trib[/url]"]BOURBONNAIS -- The Bears signed Darwin Walker, their newly acquired defensive tackle, to a five-year contract Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.

..............

Also Tuesday, the Bears signed tight end Brent Pierce to a two-year deal. Pierce was last on Dallas' roster.

ESPN is reporting 5 years $25M.

"Walker will earn about $2 million this season, plus $8 million to $9 million in bonuses and possibly another $3.5 million in incentives over the length of the contract, according to his agent Albert Irby."

Corey Redding of the Lions signed a 7 year $49M a couple weeks ago. Id rather have Walker than Redding. This appears to be a very solid deal.
