I might be wrong, but I don't think Soriano was signed to play RF, considering he's never played there in his MLB career.

Well, he was acquired by Washington to play LF even though he had said he would refuse to move to the OF. Just b/c he's never played in RF doesn't mean he couldn't have been signed to play there.

Once again a thread has devolved into another love fest for freakin Murton. Does it ever end? And now we're blaming Soriano not moving to RF for Murton sucking? Come on.

Where is the love fest you are talking about?

I just want to say this. Ill throw it out there. Both Murton and Cedeno had ample chance to be an everyday starter on this team.

I looked back and there were only two references to the guy!

Darn, if only we had a 25-year-old in the minors who has a full season experience in the majors.

do you contest that quote? I think its pretty safe to say that it is the truth that Murton had a full season of experience in the major leagues.

But unless the sole purpose of getting a guy like Monroe is to add someone off the bench who is at least a threat to go deep, Murton is the better answer.

That person only said that Murton is a better option than Craig Monroe!

I think what we need to be asking is why you hate Murton so much?

If, by love fest, you mean people upset that the Cubs are talking about acquiring people that would do exactly what Murton would, than yeah, it's a love fest.

I personnally think if the Cubs are going to acquire an OF, it better be a big time bat, Griffey, Dunn, Dye, or a good CF that can hold down CF for the rest of the year, Lofton comes to mind. If they're talking Craig Monroe, just bring up Murton, stick him in RF and let him learn the position. He's cheaper, and when he's played everyday in Chicago, he's put up decent numbers.

Fact is, he wasn't given a chance at playing every day this year. He had ONE stretch where he played everyday for a week. The rest of the time he was spot starting or PH. And when he was sent down, he had as good of numbers as Floyd. Defensively, Murton>Floyd.

The point is, he may not be the best option, but he's the best option currently controlled by the Cubs.

Murton was the everyday starter on this team last year and was above average. Then he inexplicably got yanked around and sent to AAA. His slow start didn't justify the demotion after what he's done so far in his career. Ronny was bad last year in his first full year. It was hard to argue with sending him back to AAA, although was it really reasonable to expect Izturis to be any better? Now that Cedeno has again put up great numbers at AAA, it only makes sense to bring him back up. It's not like we're running ARod out there at short everyday. What's the harm in giving Ronny another chance? Of course, I'd make the same argument for Pie. If your only other options are not good, you might as well play the guys tearing up AAA.

Why would we want Craig Monroe. He's got a career .750 OPS. Is that the best we can do? Can that even be considered an upgrade? I hope Hendry can do better than that.

I'd consider a Weurtz for Marcus Thames trade.

He's on the 15-day DL with a bad hamstring and won't be able to come off the DL until after the trading deadline.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off subject, but is it pronounced "Lee-Vine" or "Luh-Veen"?

Wurtz for Granderson? hahaha.

"This is my cousin, Artie 'Luh-VEEN'."

"Luh-VINE".

"Yeah - and I'm Jerry Cougar Mellencamp."

But he'd come off the DL within a week of the deadline so if Hendry really wanted him his DL stint probably wouldn't make a difference. There's no league rule against trading for a player that's on the DL. That's how the Cubs got Rondell White and how he became referred to as RonDL White.
