But what if Posada has to do a 15 day DL stint, or even if he is out for just a week. Wouldn't that have the potential to compound the damage?

yes but keep in mind theyre trading for the worst molina. nieves pecota is actually comparable to the production molinas had this season, of course nieves has sucked ass more. over 15 games the difference will be a run and a half. which when coupled with the yankees offense means like .05 wins if even that.

That's possible. A DL trip for Posada would increase the importance of the back up. But the chances that he'll suffer an injury that would give the back up substantially more playing time are small, which makes it a relatively unimportant acquisition still.

Still a worthwhile gamble in my book. If the Yankees are going to stand a chance this year, they can't leave any gas in the tank. They didn't give up much, and they can't let Nieves play in a pennant race.
