ahh..finally found the thread to talk about Grienke...the other one was locked...which is getting quite annoying IMO.

I'd love to get a deal done for this kid. Zambrano can mentor the kid and help him out with his depression issues.

Greinke's last month:

15.1ip 1sv 16k 2.35 era and .78 whip

He's a reliever now? I thought he a guy with ace potential at one point?

He still does, but the Royals are idiots.

Yes, please tell us about your inside knowledge of the Greinke situation and how the Royals are "idiots" in the matter.

I'm not sure what I said that hurt your feelings, but it's a safe assumption that one of the more talented pitchers drafted in recent memory still has that talent at 23 given he's had no major surgeries. It's also a safe assumption that putting a pitcher with that much talent in the bullpen is idiotic.

Sorry for running over your cat.

No, what's idiotic is that you feel you have the knowledge to pass judgment on a situation that you have exactly zero familiarity with. Zack has social anxiety disorder, and loses focus--badly--in extended outings. It is in his best interest to pitch in short stints, hence the move to the bullpen. And he has responded.

Just because the kid could once dial it up to 100 mph does not mean he must be a starting pitcher. For reference, see Harrington, Matt and Griffin, Colt as two recent examples.

Now, would I trade for Greinke as a relief prospect? Probably not, because he does not fill a pressing need for the Cubs right now, and the unpredictability of Zack's situation is not worth the risk given our playoff chances. KC is a good place for him for now.

Greinke started 7 games this year.

He was dominant in his first two starts giving up 1 run in each

Third start he gave up 4 runs in 2/3rds of an inning.

Fourth start he was not great giving up 4 runs in 5 innings, 3 of them coming in the last 2 innings

Dominant in the fifth start not allowing a run.

Bombed in his 6th start giving up 6 runs in 5 innings, 5 of those runs came in the first 2 innings (4 of them in the 1st)

Bombed again in his last start giving up 6 run in 4 innings, all 6 of those runs game in the 2nd inning.

Soooo, that means in his 7 starts he only fell apart later in the game in one of them. So, how again has he lost focus in extended outings?

I'd love to have Greinke, but KC asked for Loney or Kemp when the Dodgers inquired about Dotel. Our two best (tradable) position prospects are Pie and Patterson. Not gonna happen.

What's wrong with a little multiplication? :D

yes, but a merged thread is better than a locked one (esp. if there is no link in the locked thread to the one where the majority of the conversation is happening)

.

I think you're thinking of Colt Griffin. Greinke was never known as an exceptionally hard thrower, he was a prospect because of his ability to change speeds, his changeup and his superior control. He was often compared to a young Greg Maddux
