BTW I hope he is getting called up and not traded.
Based on his father's post (especially the use of the lol icon) I'd assume it's a callup rather than a trade.

Agreed.

I guess Mr. Gallagher decided this time he should wait until the Cubs make the corresponding roster move before letting the cat out of the bag.

I checked Iowa's game notes from yesterday to see if there was any mention of Sean, but there was none. It didn't even mention the change in starting pitchers; it just read as if Wells had been scheduled all along.

Micah Hoffpaeiour's wife used to post here. I wonder if we couldn't get some sort of family thread together.

IowaCubs.com"]Iowa Cubs Drop Eighth Straight

Cedeno and Coats extend hit streak to 12 games

By Jeff Lantz / http://www.iowacubs.com

The Iowa Cubs dropped their eighth straight game as they fell to the New Orleans Zephyrs 7-3 Wednesday night at Principal Park.

Buck Coats and Ronny Cedeno extended their hitting streaks to 12 games each and Eric Patterson hit his 11th home run of the year in the seventh inning.

Cedeno had three hits on the night while Geovany Soto, Matt Murton and Scott Moore each recorded a pair of hits.

The second largest crowd of the season (13,998), which included presidential candidate Illinois Senator Barack Obama, watched as Iowa starter Randy Wells was tagged with the loss.

The Zephyrs scored three unearned runs as Cubs pitchers Geoff Jones and Mike Nannini made costly throwing errors.

SmokiesBaseball.com"]Stars Defeat Smokies 6-3 on Fourth of July

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars tripped up Tennessee on Wednesday, 6-3, to take the first of five games. The opener in Huntsville was played in front of a crowd of 11,455 at Joe Davis Stadium.

The Stars scored first with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Smokies starter Justin Berg had a no-hitter going when the Stars' Steve Moss singled to center with two strikes. Stars pitcher Mark Defelice would double in two runs later on in the inning to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.

The Stars then added three more to the lead with a big sixth inning, and chased Berg from the game.

Tennessee ended the Defelice shutout by scoring in the seventh. Issmael Salas doubled in two runners to help Tennessee close the gap to three. The Smokies would threaten again in the ninth by loading the bases, but would only score one run, stranding the tying runs on base.

PeoriaChiefs.com"]Chiefs Fall on 3-Run Homer

Geneva, IL – One bad pitch cost the Peoria Chiefs a holiday victory as they fell 3-1 to the Kane County Cougars on a sixth inning three-run homer. The loss drops the Chiefs to 8-6 on the half.

The Chiefs took a first inning lead without benefit of a hit. After back to back strikeouts, Josh Lansford grounded to shortstop off Cougars hurler Trevor Cahill. However, All-Star shortstop Mike Affronti threw the ball into the camera well and Lansford was safe at second. Josh then stole third when third baseman Alex Valdez dropped the pick off throw and scored on a passed ball by catcher Matt Smith for a 1-0 lead.

Kane County threatened against Chiefs starter Jose Pina in the third and fourth innings but came up empty both times. Alex Valdez doubled with two outs in the third and Pina struck out Mike Massaro to end the inning. After back to back singles in the fourth, Pina pounced on a bunt and nailed the lead runner at third for the inning’s first out. He then retired the next two batters to get out of the frame with a 1-0 lead.

While the Chiefs couldn’t solve Cahill, Kane County finally got to Pina in the sixth. A lead off single by Massaro was followed by a Pina throwing error to put runners two runners on with no outs. After a popped up bunt, Massaro and Mike Affronti pulled off a double steal. Pina then surrendered his 12th homer of the year, a three run shot off the scoreboard by Ramiro Mendez. The homer was the first this season for Mendez, a .182 hitter.

Peoria threatened in the ninth but couldn’t score against reliever Travis Banwart who was making his pro debut. With two outs, Blake Lalli doubled to right to bring the tying run to the plate. However, Banwart struck out Alfred Joseph to end the game.

Pina went 5 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits. He did not issue a walk, committed an error and struck out four. Jayson Ruhlman threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in which he walked three and allowed two hits. Cahill struck out a career high nine in six innings and Banwart picked up a three inning save in his first appearance.

Gorman’s Pub Player of the Game: Matt Canepa © – The Chiefs catcher had two of the team’s three hits with singles in the 2nd and 7th inning. He finished the game 2-for-3.

BoiseHawks.com"]Hawks Win Fourth of July Marathon

Mario Mercedes had to come from further than the bench to pinch hit on Wednesday night. The Hawk's back up catcher had to come in all the way from the bullpen where he had been warming up the five relievers who had come into the game against the Everett Aqua Sox. Shedding his catchers gear and stepping up to the plate against Nick Hill, Mercedes stepped into the box with the bases loaded and the score tied 7-7 in the eighth inning. The drama ended quickly as Mercedes hit the first pitch from Hill into left field for a two-run single. With a runner on first base and two outs in the ninth inning, Harol Tolintino came in from the bullpen (to pitch, not hit) and struck out pinch hitter Kalian Sams to earn the first save of the season by a Hawks pitcher and preserve a 9-7 win.

A loss would have been deflating to a Hawks team which won its second game in a row for the first time this season. They lost leads of 5-0, 6-5 and 7-6 but took advantage of four Aqua Sox errors and their own perseverance to pull out the win.

Jonathan Wyatt paced an 11-hit attack with three hits and a walk. He scored three times and stole two bases. Ty Wright had a pair of hits and three RBI's and Drew Rundle had a clutch base hit in the seventh inning that temporarily gave the Hawks a 7-6 lead.

Ogui Diaz' home run in the eighth inning tied the game, but it was Diaz' error in the bottom of the eight inning to set the stage for Mercedes heroics.

I'm not going to get my hopes up in what the possible move will be. I'm sure it's something like Petrick being sent down again.
