I get asked to go to Salt Lake City for three days - July 30, 31, and August 1. So, someone is telling me how beautiful the park there is and guess who just happens to be in town that week! :D

I've done that before (substitute snowboarding for skiing). Of course Southern California's crappy ski resorts are awful by April.

I don't think anything is open in the Wahsatch these days but I'll settle for baseball.
