It's an extremely slow game...but if we can abuse the guys in the Nats pen, it may help us for the remainder of the series.

 

That's what I am hoping for-let's get over half their bullpen in the game tonight, and then they won't have as many available when Redding pitches tomorrow. That was just 37 pitches by Traber in the last inning-he can't last much longer if at all.

 

I'm also hoping for a complete game from Lilly. That would give everyone in our pen except Marmol two days of rest.

 

Lilly has thrown 60+ pitches today in 3.2 innings. He'll need to be much more efficient in order to go deep into the seventh inning, much less throw a complete game.

 

If the Cubs can keep scoring maybe they can get a big enough lead that Lou can trust Eyre to go the last two innings.

Maybe that is a philosophical question - is any lead big enough to feel safe enough to let Eyre close it out?

I'm gonna go ahead and proclaim we don't have to worry about anything historical happening tonight. It's Ted Lilly. Yes, it's the Nationals. But it's Ted Lilly.

 

there have been lots of average pitchers who have done something historic.

I'd love to see someone take a machine gun to Lilly, he could probably dodge every single bullet. That was amazing!

Regardless of what he ends up doing or not doing, he looked incredibly trashy in the first inning.
