So, it's a slow newsday. But from my Newberg Report email...

The Rangers have designated lefthander John Koronka for assignment, in order

to create a 40-man roster spot for Oklahoma infielder Desi Relaford, whose

contract was purchased in time for today's game. Righthander Scott Feldman

was optioned to Oklahoma to make room for Relaford on the 25-man active

roster.

Texas now has 10 days to trade Koronka, try to get him through waivers, or

release him. If the Rangers are able to get the 26-year-old through

waivers, they will be able to outright his contract to the minor leagues

without him having the option to take free agency, as he has not previously

been outrighted in his career -- unless his return to Cincinnati in 2003

(after Texas had Rule 5'd him in December 2002) counts as an outright.
