Veal ties his season high of 10 K. And now K #11.

His career high is 12, which he'll come just shy of. His final line: 5 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 11 K/4 BB

JR Mathes is getting crushed... 7 H and 2 BB in 1.2 innings. I-Cubs down 6-0 already.

Now it's 7-0. Goody, the I-Cubs are facing Jon Koronka.

Daytona up 3-0 in the top of the 7th. Reinhard is having a good game: 6 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 6 K/2 BB.

Sounds like Muldowney needs only one - maybe two - more rehab start before he's back in Peoria. Apparently he looked much better than his line.

I stopped listening because there was something weird with the connection/broadcast. Good for Colvin - that double *just* missed being a HR and he's made a few nice defensive plays in CF.

Tennessee won 2-1 in 11.

Iowa lost 11-5, Ronny Cedeño had a HR.

Boise is winning () 2-0 in the second.

Wright had an RBI double in the first, Rundle with an RBI single in the 2nd.

Wright's double was a soft infield hit that looked like the third out of the inning and then it hit the third base bag and went awkwardly into LF for a double. It was awesome to hear the Eugene fans in the background of the radio broadcast start cheering for the third out and then groan in disgust.

ETA: Billy Mottram with a 2-run HR and Boise is now up 4-0 in the 4th!

Here comes Colvin...

? He had one nice game. A nice game that upped his OPS to .437

I'm glad he finally hit a AA pitcher, but "here comes Colvin" is a little premature.

Hope he keeps it up, though.

Well, at least it's two good games now (he was 2/3, double and a BB yesterday).

Iowa rallies with five runs in the final three innings

By Jeff Lantz / http://www.iowacubs.com

The Oklahoma RedHawks scored nine runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 9-4 win over the Iowa Cubs Wednesday night at Principal Park. Iowa started J.R. Mathes was roughed up for nine runs over five innings and was tagged with the loss.

Ronny Cedeno hit his fifth home run of the year for the Cubs in the losing effort. Cedeno, Tony Richie and Josh Kroeger each had a pair of hits for the Cubs.

Former Iowa Cub John Koronka beat his former club allowing just one earned run over seven innings for the win, his second of the year against Iowa.

SmokiesBaseball.com"]COLVIN SHINES IN SMOKIES 2-1 WIN IN ELEVEN

Zebulon, NC- Tyler Colvin’s third hit of the night was an eleven inning double off the glove of Jai Miller the centerfielder for Carolina. It also pushed the go ahead run to third. Carlos Rojas later in the inning laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt scoring Jake Fox. The 2-1 advantage was the only for Tennessee in the game.

Ryan Bear cracked a solo homerun of Tennessee starter Donnie Veal in the second inning. Veal would not allow another run in pitching five innings on the night. He walked four but fanned a season high eleven Mudcats hitters.

Carolina led in the game until the eighth when Colvin three-for-five in the game singled in the tying run with two gone.

Jim Henderson (4-2) was great in relief going two scoreless innings to get the win.

Dunedin Erupts for Six Runs in Final Two At-Bats

By: Dan Watson

[DUNEDIN, FL] The Daytona Cubs led early, but fell to the Dunedin Blue Jays, 6-5, Wednesday at Knology Park. A four-run eighth inning was the difference as the Cubs dropped to 1-6 in the second half.

For the second straight game, Daytona got a spectacular performance from a starting pitcher. This time, Greg Reinhard was the man of the hour, going six scoreless innings. The right-hander gave up just four hits and two walks as he struck out six. But Dunedin strung together five consecutive base hits in a four-run eighth inning, pushing the Blue Jays toward the victory.

The Cubs wasted little time in jumping on the Blue Jays. Back-to-back singles by Matt Matulia and Chris Amador, combined with a wild pitch, put Cubs at the corners with nobody out. Kyle Reynolds followed with an RBI fielder's choice to plate Matulia for the game's first run.

Daytona scraped together another run in the fifth. Chris Amador laid down a two-out bunt single to extend the inning. Then, Reynolds hit a screamer toward center field, and the ball got past centerfielder Cory Patton as he slipped on the wet grass. Amador sped all the way around to score and Reynolds ended up with a triple to make it 2-0 Daytona.

The Cubs kept the pedal to the metal in the sixth. With reliever Aaron Tressler on the mound, Alan Rick belted the first pitch of the frame out of the yard for a majestic solo home run. Daytona loaded the bases later in the inning, but couldn't cash in as Tressler got out of the jam to keep it a 3-0 game.

Dunedin capitalized on control problems by Cubs reliever Darin Downs in the seventh. Jacob Butler and Anthony Hatch walked to put runners at first and second with two out. Carlo Cota lined a single into center field to score Butler and cut the lead to 3-1. Then, Downs uncorked a wild pitch which allowed Hatch to score and make it a 3-2 game.

Daytona got one of those runs back in the top of the eighth on a wild play. Alberto Garcia drove a ball off the wall for a leadoff triple, and the throw to third base went into the seats. Garcia was awarded an extra base on the error and scored to push the Daytona lead to 4-2.

The Jays exploded to take the lead in the bottom of the inning. Josh Kreuzer smashed a leadoff home run to cut the advantage to 4-3. Downs was relieved by Tim Layden and the southpaw gave up four consecutive base hits. An infield single by Brian Jeroloman gave Dunedin a 5-4 lead. Jesus Gonzalez followed by grounding into an RBI fielder's choice to extend the advantage to 6-4. After allowing another single, Layden was lifted for Scott Taylor, who got the final two outs without any more runs crossing the plate.

Chris Amador cut the lead back down to a run when he led off the ninth with a solo homer.

The defeat dropped Daytona to 1-6 in the second half. Layden (1-3) was tagged with the loss. Dunedin jumped over .500, improving to 4-3 in the second half. Tressler (4-5) picked up the victory for the Blue Jays, while Paul Phillips held on for his first save of the season.

Amador was a bright spot for the Cubs, as he went 3-for-5 at the plate. Alan Rick had a 2-for-5 night, clubbing a home run and a double.

PeoriaChiefs.com"]Chiefs Win 5-2 Wednesday

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs got a strong outing from a starting pitcher for the second straight game in a 5-2 victory over the visiting Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday afternoon. Jake Renshaw tossed five shutout innings while striking out eight Timber Rattlers to pick up his team high seventh win.

Renshaw got help from his defense to get out of a jam in the first inning. After walking two of the first three hitters, Alfred Joseph threw Kuo Hui Lo out at the plate trying to score on a base hit by Trevor Lawhorn. Carlos Peguero singled up the middle and Matt Camp came up throwing from center to nail Reed Eastley at the plate to end the inning.

Peoria jumped on Rattlers starter Nathan Adcock in the bottom of the first inning after Jim Adduci doubled to deep left center and Josh Lansford hit one down the line to score Adduci and give the Chiefs the lead 1-0. Lansford was thrown out at second by Lo who now has three outfield assists in the series.

Renshaw worked out of trouble for the second time in the game in the second. Joe White led off with a single and the Chiefs committed two fielding errors to load the bases with one out. Renshaw recovered to strike out Calvin Beamon and got Lo to ground out to end the inning and keep the Rattlers off the board.

Peoria extended the lead in the third inning when Jonathon Mota hit a solo shot to left field to make it 2-0. The homer was the second on the season for Mota and the 37th overall for the Chiefs on the season.

The Chiefs added a run in the fifth inning after Matt Camp walked to start the inning and advanced all the way to third base on a failed pick off attempt by Adcock. Jonathon Mota flew out to Lo in left who threw to the plate to keep Camp at third. Catcher Juan Beltran threw behind Camp at third and the throw got away which allowed Camp to score to make it 3-0.

Russ Canzler pushed his hitting streak to eight games with the second solo home run of the game for the Chiefs in the sixth inning to make it 4-0. Canzler is 17-for-28 during his current hitting streak.

Wellington Castillo tripled to right center field to start the seventh inning for the Chiefs and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nate Samson to make it 5-0. The triple was the first for Castillo on the season and the ninth for the Chiefs as a team.

Wisconsin finally got on the board in the eighth inning off Chiefs reliever Matt Maradeo. Carlos Peguero singled to start the inning and Joe White hit a two-run homer to cut into the Chiefs lead at 5-2.

Maradeo tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief and allowed four hits and two runs. Jayson Ruhlman got the final out in the eighth and worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save in four opportunities.

BoiseHawks.com / MiLB.com"]Hawks notch first win

June 28, 2007 - William Mottram belted a two-run homer as visiting Boise beat Eugene, 5-1, on Wednesday to snap a season-opening eight-game losing streak. Mottram's first blast of the season and his only hit of the game gave the Hawks (1-8) a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Mario Mercedes went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ty Wright, Andrew Rundle and Marquez Smith each had an RBI for Boise.

After Hawks starter Zachary Ashwood gave up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings, John Muller walked three in one hitless frame.

Harol Tolentino (1-0) got the win after giving up a run on two hits and one walk while fanning five in three innings, and Audy Santana allowed two hits and a walk with four strikeouts over two scoreless frames to close it out.

Eugene starter Jeremy McBryde (0-1) yielded four runs on five hits while fanning two over 3 2/3 innings.

Andrew Parrino went 3-for-5 and Brian Lauderdale clubbed a solo homer, his first, in the seventh for the Emeralds (6-3)

that Smokies write up sucks. was it a double that should have been an error? a pop fly that he couldn't get to? a bomb in the gap that was dove for?

what do they mean by 'tipped off glove of CF?'

I bet he gets 2 more. One where he goes 3 innings and one where he goes 4...that way he can jump back into our rotation and not have to piggy back with someone and stretch our bullpen thin...However, if Mateo pitches will today (Thurs) then maybe he will leave and Muldowney will come in and pitch with Cuevas like Mateo has been doing...It will just be very good to get our Opening Day starter back!!
