Jones is sub .080

Here we go again. Maybe he can pad those stats in August and September when the games don't mean anything...

that's better than the 0-30something he put up to begin last year.

Jacque before the All-Star break in 2006-.306/.336/.526

After All-Star break-.261/.332/.465

He was definitely better in the first half of the season. And in May, when the games definitely mattered (remember, the Cubs had a winning record at the beginning of May) until the Cubs spiraled out of control during May, Jones was one of the only ones hitting well. He had a bad April and July, but his other 4 months were very good, and he definitely wasn't just padding his numbers after the Cubs were out of it.

I really liked the way marquis pitched today, but just as before the offense NEEDS to step up and that bullpen is too shaky. o and btw, bad call lou to put cedeno in there, we all know he couldnt hit his way out of a wet bag

Not so much a bad call. He was great in spring and showed improvement. I'm sure Lou will pound into him not to be so aggresive with 2 balls. If he is to get better, he needs to be in those game situations and learn from them.

it was a bad call.

his decision to replace murton with theriot was a bad call, too.

You would've stuck with Floyd?

Ideally, Murton wouldn't have been PR for, so Theriot would've been the one that hit there.

Any body can second guess something when it doesn't work.

I would've preferred to see Lou stick with Murton the whole way. Theriot's speed can be useful late in games, but his OF defense isn't too pretty and both DeRosa and Izturis have been hot at the plate.

I realy wasn't paying too much attention at that point. But I think Lou should have stuck with Marquis for the 7th. I don't know what the match-ups were. But it was obvious Marquis was dealing, and would probably have breezed through the inning.

I guess lou did make a couple of mistakes. But the biggest errors were on part of the players. In the 7th, Soriano got picked off, theroit got tagged out on the basepaths during a hit by lee. If neither of those 2 things happened the cubs would have scored 1, and could have likely scored 2 or 3. There would have been 1 out with a man on 2nd and 1 run in.

But a lot of people were questioning those moves when they were made. And even if Theriot scores, I think it's a bad move to replace Murton with him. If it were Ward or some huge mass of slowness, I can understand. Unless Murton's hurt, I don't see the reason to PR for him and waste a bench guy.

That said, I have no problem with Cedeno. But if this happens all the time (Floyd announced, team goes to pen for LHP, Floyd pulled back) Floyd's going to be worthless as a PH.

no, it wasn't. floyd has been atrociuous against lefties, with a far greater sample size than cedeno.

lou was trying to get cedeno a meaningful plate appearance and it didn't work. but this is baseball, most offensive moves don't work.
