This is based on true events. The only things changed are the name and dates.

Many teams approached Hendry about Prior in the winter of '04, but he was regarded as untouchable.

Prior started working on a changeup in 2006 while making 7 starts for the Cubs. His numbers were even worse, as walks increased. He spent time on the DL with shoulder tightness that summer, but Dusty Baker made sure to get him right back out there ASAP. His shoulder caused a second DL stint in July. Surgery was considered, but Prior ultimately took a cortisone shot and resumed pitching. The injury recurred a third time, causing Prior to sit out the playoffs. Way to go, Dusty! Prior did not have shoulder surgery in October of that year.

His velocity down to the mid-80s in '07, Prior toiled in Triple A until June before earning a demotion to Double A. Things improved a bit before the end of the season, and he was in the low 90s by the spring of '08. He pitched poorly that year in Triple A but got a September call-up anyway.

In the spring of '09, Prior finally gave up starting and managed to earn a job with the Cubs as a setup man for Carlos Marmol out of spring training. He started the season with a 22 inning scoreless inning streak. After winning 12 games and posting a 2.96 ERA in 79 innings in his first season as a reliever, he became a major component of the Jason Kendall trade.

Um....

Jason Kendall? That's just laughable.

I don't know what you were trying to do here, but you failed.

Jason Kendall possesses the grit and hustle Hendry will be looking for when Barrett leaves

At 35 years old? That just doesn't make sense.

I have been trying to think about which pitcher this originally applied to-I haven't had a name pop up in my head, but I'm sure when I hear it it will seem like it should have been obvious.

Why are we trading for Kendall, and why is a resurgent Prior the centerpiece of a deal for an aging catcher who has no value at any other position?

EDIT: Oh, this was a story about Joe Nathan with Prior's name plugged in.

He intended to annoy you and make you go "YOU failed.". So infact he succeeded. 8-)
