God don't do that! I thought he was back on the Cubs.

I fully expect Hendry to start a bidding war to bring him back where he belongs.

Do we have anyone who can be a backup at all nine positions?

I think not.

Getting to see Macias play ball on a regular basis again would truly be a Christmas miracle. Plus, if he sticks in Washington, he might make Church expendable.

I'm waiting for the 3/$16m offer any day now.

Too low. Look at what Marquis got. And he only plays one position poorly.

This is ridiculous. Everyone knows you don't feed gremlins after midnight, not sunset.

When I posted I was drunker than Jim Bowden channeling William Faulkner.

I swear by Phoebe Cates that it won't happen again.

OK, not really. I just wanted to make a Jim Bowden joke.

Honestly, the thought of Jose Macias playing for another major league team has me giddy like a schoolgirl.

Macias hit 229/.264/.344 in Japan in 2006, and he'll be 35 yrs old in January. I can't begin to come up with a reason why an MLB team would even consider investing meal money in Macias. The Nats are using 2007 to rebuild, so it would be particularly stupid for them to carry washed up vets on the bench.

Stats aren't everything.

Macias brings intangibles that make the whole team better.

Can you measure the psychological value of knowing that if one of the starters gets hurt - no matter what position he plays - Macias can step right in?

Plus he's a switch hitter. He instantly breaks up an all left-handed or all right-handed lineup.

And his age is a positive, not a negative. He'll teach the youngsters how to play the game the right way. He'll tutor Ryan Zimmerman just like Maddux tutored Sean Marshall.

Bowden pulled off Kearns/Lopez for junk and he got good prospects for Vidro. If he can get Macias signed, he's 3-0 in my book.

You know Macias can pitch, right?

The Nats could play Macias in right field when Mike O'Connor starts and bring Macias in whenever O'Connor is supposed to face a tough righty. O'Connor could just switch back and forth with Macias in right field.
