Russ Springer-R-Cardinals Dec. 8 - 6:49 pm et

Cardinals signed RHP Russ Springer, who had been with the Astros, to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.

While the St. Louis Post-Dispatch kept bringing up Dan Kolb's name, the Cardinals quietly managed to bring in a superior right-hander. Springer had a 3.47 ERA in 59 2/3 innings last season. He's basically Braden Looper without the ability to go multiple innings on occasion. He's also no sure thing to stay healthy. Still, at $1.75 million, he's a fine investment.

Crap. We're doomed!

J/K, solid signing.

And I too, was hoping they'd bring in Kolb as well. If I remember correctly I once saw Kolb blow a save for ATL by allowing 2 straight walks, a wild pitch, and a throwing error. There might've been a fielding error in there too. To which my friend said "Why does this man play professional baseball?"
