I think the appeal of Milledge is he can develop his power as he gets older and matures. His plate patience is already there.

Pie may develop the power, but never the patience.

sounds more like murton than pie.

If we replace Jones and his 27 HRs with Lofton and his .360 OBP, do we win or lose?

How many games was ol' gimpy able to play last year?

Kenny's not a full time player anymore.

129 games.

It seems like the only CF options would be Lofton, Lugo or Pie....am I missing someone very very obvious here?

According to Phil Rogers, Dave Van Dyck and Paul Sullivan in their Winter Meetings Whispers, the Giants and Orioles are emerging as the main potential suitors for Jacque Jones. And to quote them: "The Cubs' willingness to deal Jones is probably more about his rift with fans than his subpar play in right field."

Translation: We don't understand why Hendry would sell high on a player that cannot play competent RF and has a contract below market value.

Lose, IMHO. But Hendry seems hellbent on trading him for whatever reason.

Hendry should have read this boards reaction to a possible Jones signing last offseason and not signed Jones in the first place. Then he probably would have traded Prior for Tejada+ and....well I could go on for awhile.

• The Mets may be more inclined to trade rather than pursue a free agent. A starting pitcher is high on the club's list of needs and Javier Vazquez's name has come up repeatedly as an individual high on GM Omar Minaya's list. Minaya has also talked to the White Sox about Mark Buehrle and is believed to have discussed the possibility of trading outfielder Lastings Milledge to Chicago for the left-hander.

 Put me down! I am down!

That could quite possibly be the worst trade I've ever heard (from the Mets standpoint).

You really don't have to go very far back to find a worse one in Mets history.

Kazmir/Zambrano is the gold standard of stupidity.[/quote]

And the MAIN reason why TB is so difficult to talk trade with. Thanks again, Steve Phillips.

Probably not, since LaMarr isn't their GM anymore.

I would love for the Cubs to get Church, but what happens to Pie, if the Cubs could get Church?

Man, either of those guys would fit our needs so well and they're both making league minimum or near it. Someone tie a note to a rock and throw it through Hendry's window.

I don't mind giving up Marmol. The Cubs need to start thinning out the log jam with Marmol, Mateo, Marshall and Guzman. Eventually some of these guys are going to get leapfrogged by Gallagher and lower level prospects and have absolutely no value.

Neither do I. I don't want to have those guys turn into Leicester, Welly, Cruz...and get nothing for them. The only problem is dealing Jones creates a hole for us that I'm not sure Lofton fits. In that situation I'd want to see Soriano move to second and DeRosa become a super-utility player and bring in another OF from the left side (darn Drew).

He takes Church's spot when he's ready and Church becomes a great 4th outfielder....or Soriano moves to 2B and Church goes to RF.

Nothing, one of them can shift, become 4th OF, shift Soriano. It would give us options.

Wilkerson

I think Church and Gross are much better options. Kearns would be good too, but he's a rightie.....but the thought of a Church/Kearns platoon in CF makes me poop in my pants.

He either becomes a 4th OF for a million bucks in 08 or his value gets raised significantly by actually being given a shot and we can trade him to fill a hole.

On Mike and Mike this morning they mentioned the Rangers going hard after Barry Zito and said the Cubs were in the bidding as well.

I don't believe for a second that the Cubs are serious bidders for Zito. I think the Cubs have become this year's Yankees since we've thrown around so much money. All the agents are using us to hike up the price for their client.

Could be. Or people are just guessing Cubs everywhere to try and be right because the Cubs are throwing around so much money.
