In Sullivans new article it says:

"but within the last week he has positioned the Cubs to become players for Zito and Schmidt, the top two names."

Then later Hendry says:

Hendry did not rule himself out of the picture with either Zito or Schmidt, however.

"I'm interested in anybody who can make us better," Hendry said. "The names are the names."

Maybe Jim is playing it quiet on the Zito front with hopes of landing the lefty. He makes it sound more and more like he will be a player with Schmidt and Zito.

I worry how Zito would perform in the small parks in the NL Central.

I'd much rather have Schmidt, and I still think (hope) Hendry feels the same. I think he's trying not to show his hand. I hope he can drive Zito's price up and force other teams to spend more to get him - it seems fairly clear that the mkt for Barry is bigger than the one for Schmidt.

I dont really understand all the people that say Zito's been helped by pitching in Oakland when his career ERA on the road is .22 lower. This year his away ERA was 2.97 compared to 4.71 at home. And a good chunk of his away games would be at places like Texas.
