While Hendry is on his spending spree, why doesn't he rap up Zambrano to a long term deal? Clearly Hendry is spending without any concerns right now because the Cubs are going to be sold and all the Tribune has to do to offset the increase payroll of the Cubs is up the sale price, so why not lock up the most valuable player on the team. Give him Soriano money or whatever he wants, because it only makes the Cubs more attractive if all of their core players are signed for long term deals.

Good point, no need to waste time now when he is wrapping up people at an absurd rate. But this offseason he needs to do it before they are sold. Because right now he is essentially spending someone elses money. Oh how fun it would be to be JH right now.

Not that I think we should concentrate on this now, but why let Zito's contract set the bar. That will just drive up the price. It's in our best intrest to look for a hometown discount.

I'd rather he take his time with signing Z. Weigh the risks and the rewards, see what outweights what.

 

I worry alot about investing big money and years in a pitcher. Especially on an arm as abused as Z's. Look at his stats, his control and groundball tendencies have gone down, and he's had little nagging injuries that could grow.

 

I think he should wait a little bit and even check out what he could get in a Z trade.
