I'm putting this in discussions, because I hope it will generate some good discussion about the franchise, but if the mods deem it a rant, feel free to move it.

After I stopped reading through the first 60+ (premium) pages of the Soriano thread, I felt that I need to walk away because my head was spinning.

Here's the thing: I consider myself a realist Cubs fan. I'm not one of the lemmings who would fill the park regardless of the team on the field. I'm not a fan who sees everything through blue-colored glasses. However, I know my limitations. What I am not is good with statistical knowledge. Granted, I'm learning as I go along, and being a member here has helped a lot. I still don't know what EqA is or some of the other stats used in the Soriano thread. When I get a chance, I will look all that up, and maybe I'll have a better understanding of players.

The real issue is, I've come to the conclusion that I am pretty numb to anything Cubs at this point. Yeah, I'm glad they did something, but like most here I am not entirely happy about what effects the AS contract could have on the future. BUT ... I am willing to forgo any judgement -- positive or negative -- until I see how the entire off-season unfolds. I am neither optimistic or pessimistic. At this point, it's just there for me.

Unfortunately the Cubs as an organization have allowed it to come to the point (based on recent performance), where the off-season is a big game of "What Have You Done For Me Lately?"

We kept A-RAM!

But what have you done for me lately?

We re-signed Wood for considerable less money!

But what have you done for me lately?

We signed Mark DeRosa to shore up second base!

But what have you done for me lately?

We traded for Neal Cotts!

But what have you done for me lately?

We signed Alfonso Soriano -- a top FA!!

But what have you done for me lately?

I'm still not running out for tickets, and unless there are MORE and more importantly SIGNIFICANT upgrades happen, I'm not even sure how many games I'd go to in 2007.
