gary matthews is 32, he had a BABIP of .349, and he plays in the most hitter-friendly park in the AL. in other words, sign the Cubs up.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Astros are showing significant interest in Matthews.

According to a baseball official, the Astros have contacted agent Scott Leventhal, who represents Matthews. Teams are permitted to contact free agents but can't begin negotiations until Nov. 12.
