Of course the refs don't help with their dekes and fakes. Just drop the damn puck.

Why do they do that? I never understood why the refs spend so much time looking like they are trying to fake guys out.

Want to make sure no one is anticipating the drop. If you start a little early you're most likely going to win the draw.

Yeah, but what's the point? The shenanigans on faceoffs are such a boring waste of time from an otherwise exciting non-stop moving sport.

I agree with you. It seems a lot of times like an ego-boost for some refs. "You're not going to wait for me, get out of here because I am in control of the game.' I'm a fan of the street hockey faceoff with the triple stick tap myself.

plus, everyone's always anticipating the drop. who gets thrown out of the circle ends up being completely arbitrary. the ref fakes it, both guys fall all over each other, then one guy gets thrown out.

if you fail to anticipate the drop, you lose the faceoff, so where does that get anyone? just bring the guys together and drop it. whatever happens happens.

I think they should start doing it in hoops to. make those guys start pogo sticking trying to win the tip.

As a fan it's so frustrating to watch three fakes, one guy gets thrown out, etc. just drop the puck!!!!

I never got really turned on by hockey till I was in H.S., by then I was living in the DC area and became a Capitals fan...but boy do they suck! In the last few years I have pretty much moved away from hockey cause Ive really had nothing to root for(its one thing to root for a crappy baseball team, but a crappy baseball team AND a crappy hockey team? thats year round loseing)...Im beginning to think I should reach back to my Chicago roots and adopt the Blackhawks...afterall the only reason I became a Caps fan was cause in HS I could go to games and get ripped w/o worrying about having an ID(gotta love an 18 year old drinking age(wow i just really dated myself))

18 year old drinking age??

drinking age in DC was 18 well into the 80's...blame it on MADD or drunk kids...

actually come to think of it, DC held out as long as they could w/o losing federal funding for roads...MADD was instrumental in the change, in the mid 80's they were a real force

Hopefully you guys are enjoying Zeus... he was one of my favorite players in a Flyers uniform. He's not a great offensive player and his numbers thus far are a bit of a fluke, but he will work hard, pick up a good number of assists, and be one of your best penalty killers and checkers. I wish him lots of luck with the Hawks.

He's been great so far this season. How is Calder working out with you guys?

Calder has been lousy, but then again, so has the rest of the team. I'm glad for the sake of Zeus' that he got off the Flyers' ship just before it sank.

Damn, a lot of action in the third. 2 goals in a minute span ties the game at 3 for Dallas, then the Blackhawks, with the extra skater out there in anticipation of a delayed penalty push one across. Now Havlat looks like hes hurt
Posted

...and now Dallas scores again with :39.4 left to take a 5-4 lead. What a heartbreaking loss. From up 3-1 with 5 minutes left to losing 5-4

Time for Trent to flip out again, they deserve it.

Wow. Terrible. And Havlat may be out for a while.

Well, thought they were ready to go 5-2 and take sole possession of first place, but obviously they have a loooong way to go before they are respectable.

Consistantly inconsistant. That is going to be our motto the whole season. We just don't know how to play a full 60 minutes. This isn't the first time this has happened where the opposing team scores 2 or 3 goals in a very short amount of time. This is probably the 3rd game this season where this has happened. It's like our defense just quits for about 5 minutes and allows the team to get back into the game. Just an awful final 6 minutes tonight.

Good news about Havlat that he flew home with the team as well as having his X-rays negative. He was carried off on a stretcher, but that sounds extremely precautionary. I'm not expecting him to play tomorrow, but let's hope that everything is ok with him and that it's just a sprain and nothing broken.

That was a horrible collapse. I like seeing goals come from all around yesterday, because if this team does lose Havlat for any period of time, they have no go to guy. However the defense just collapsed there in the last 5 minutes. The one-timer from the corner was just horrible. Where was the defensive zone coverage, we had guys back. It's so frustrating to see flashes of brilliance followed by flashes of garbage. At least we should get a pretty exciting year.

It figures...Hawks fans finally get something to be excited about, and he is injured 2 weeks into the season...

Maybe Ruutu can come back soon lol

I heard Ruutu should be back in the next 2-3 weeks.

Hmmm, maybe Cullimore is on the way out or scratched for tonight's game? Hawks called up D-man Danny Richmond from the minors with Bochenski.

I hope so. I didn't notice him last night, but Kelly said he had his best game of the year. It would seem odd to make a move after he finally had a good game. I still want him out, he's too slow and unable to adjust to the new rules.

Umm, can you believe the luck of the Hawks?

First off, they lost 4-3 last night in a poor effort against the Blues to fall to 4-4 on the year.

Havlat is out 2-3 weeks with a sprained knee.

Now, it's been reported by TSN.ca that Michal Handzus is likely out for the season because of torn ligament in his knee, and Nikolai Khabibulin has a broken finger and will miss at least 2 weeks.

Jeez. another bad hockey season in Chicago.

Geez, I think they watched too much Cubs baseball this summer

what a terrible weekend, no Bears game, and the Hawks moderately promising seasons dies an early death.

Wow, a veritable cornucopia of negative vibes!!

I suppose the Hawks have earned that much over the years. I'd still like to see what happens (if anything) when Havlat & Ruutu both come back, which should be at about the same time in early November.

If they could prevent the other team from scoring 5 times a game, they might be able to hang in there until those guys return, but they'll be doing it without Khabi for a couple weeks.

Boucher has looked decent his first couple of games this year. I'm not that worried about Khabi being out, but more so with our lack of depth on the offensive front the next 2-3 weeks as well as our pathetic defense.

Once we get Havlat, Ruutu, and Khabibulin back, we should be ok and should still contend for a playoff spot, I would think. We also catch a break that we don't have many games the next 2 weeks. I think we only play 5 games in the next two weeks, so we're pretty lucky on that front.
