Hendry basically has disappeared from the radar so he doesn't have to confirm or deny every rumor that pops up, such as a radio report Friday that he already had interviewed Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly, one of three known candidates, and told Brenly the job would not be his.

Brenly denied Hendry had told him anything.

"Nothing is going on to talk about," Brenly said from his home in Phoenix. "I met with Jim before I left, and we agreed to meet in the future. That's all."

Brenly has said in the past he would be interested in the job. But he also told a La Crosse, Wis., newspaper last summer that "there would have to be some changes in the organization. I think a change in philosophy a little bit, not so much a reliance on free agents, but develop your own players a little bit more."

Figures. The same article that encourages me that Brenly would be a pretty good hire, also discourages me by saying he's not being considered. :)
