he is 7-12 with an era in the 5.00's since july 1 2005. he has had 1 good month

i guess with his lower cost i can understand not quitting on him yet...however, i would certainly not be unhappy if we traded him for something of value. if we wait and find out he won't ever be the same(which is our history) we will get nothing just like we did for wood.

also if dropping prior's salary got us zito and schmidt...and helped get a postition player, i would be in favor of that.

however it's low enough that it shouldn't but then again we were 1.5 mil short on furcal.

I would get Prior healthy(a new coaching staff should help), get him back there on the mound, let him throw up some good numbers, then deal him if I can get the right pieces back.

i thought was his salary....

of course hanging on to a guy who has a hand full of games in two years with an era around 5 and has shown no sign of getting better is brilliant.....

and he's not wasting space on the forty man.

So you're saying accuracy isn't the strong suit of your arguments?

I'm pretty sure dropping Prior's $3.5M won't allow us to get Zito, Schmidt and help get a position player.

I could be wrong.

Regarding Prior--I would add that the Cubs SHOULD offer him the maximum 20% paycut in arbitration for 2007. Prior gave the Cubs nothing for his 2006 pay, he should be happy with 80% of it in 2007 and show he still has something to offer.

From the Cubs perspective then, you're basically eating about $3MM for 2007 as a call option on Prior returning to being an effective pitcher.

I WILL say that if is fragile, unreliable, and ineffective again in 2007 though, that's it, ceiling or not. He needs to put up, and right out of the gate.

the key word is HELPED... along with woods 12 mil and maddux 9 mil...3.5 mil could HELP...not get but HELP get.

Hmm. Perhaps my reading skills need work. Because I'm pretty sure what I wrote is a direct interpretation of what you wrote.

And I appreciate your confidence in my accuracy, but I have been wrong from time to time. However, I do usually look up my facts before posting them as such. If I don't have the time to do the research, I will normally place a caveat with any piece of information I'm posting.

But, hey, to each their own.
