Daytona Beach News-Journal[/url]"]Daytona starter Donnie Veal improved to 6-2 as he struck out five and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

"Donnie Veal wasn't as good as he has been," Bailey said. "He couldn't get his off-speed pitches over. I think he threw one of them over the plate and he got a couple of swings on some others, but he finds a way to stay in the game, man, and got another W."

It was manager Buddy Bailey's 1200th minor league victory:

"We're trying to make the playoffs," Bailey said after the Cubs beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-2. "I didn't even know it was 1,200. After the game (pitching coach Tom Pratt), (hitting coach) Richie (Zisk) and (athletic trainer) Steve Melendez came up to me and said, 'Congratulations!' I didn't even know it. I don't keep up with that sort of thing. You know what that means when you win that many games. It means you have a whole lotta losses."

Daytona moves to second place with the win, but remain 1.5 back of St. Lucie for first place.
