BTW, I'm confused with the original post. did you get to talk to JH or not? Why would he accept any calls from fans, much less when its an hour til the trade deadline.

well he got the number from Len Kasper in another forum.....

If you called the Cubs and said in a confident voice "Jim Hendry's office, please", I'm sure the operator would transfer you to his assistant (or one of his assistants) and that person would stop you right there as soon as you said who you were...

What if I said I were Coletti?

Probably better to chose a name that didn't work for the Cubs. Coletti might know the secretaries.

Fine, JOHN Coletti.

That would be one way to figure out if there was a prospect package in play for Maddux or not.

Speaking of which, I was listening to the XM version of ESPN radio at about 6:30-7:00pm today. The host was interviewing Coletti about the moves the Dodgers had made at the trade deadline.

Coletti explained that the Dodgers had been in talks with the Cubs re: Maddux for about a month. Hendry had initially expressed interest in Izturis at that time but the Dodgers were unprepared to make that deal due to the infield injuries they had suffered (i.e. Kent).

The host questioned if the asking price was lowered as the deadline neared. Coletti said that on trade deadline day the Cubs were asking for 1-2 prospects (expressed that one being asked for was one of the Dodgers very top prospects) but that the Dodgers didn't feel comfortable trading that top prospect. The Dodgers were later approached again by Hendry re: Izturis for Maddux, at which time they hastily arranged the Lugo deal Coletti was unable to comment whether the asking price for Lugo had been lowered from previously because that was their first discussions regarding Lugo.

Anyway, thought people might find that an interesting tidbit from the Dodgers GM.
