Why did they move the deadline a few years ago from midnight EST to 4 EST? A ratings thing so Sportscenter and all the sports talk shows could discuss the trades that day instead of *gasp* having to wait until the next day?

I think it was so those in baseball's front office didn't have to wait up all night for the trades to come in.

That too, probably. Maybe it was a bit of both. Or maybe it was to give a few more hours to put deals together.

There are 8 LESS hours to put deals together, actually.

I think part of it might actually be because there are less day games than West Coast games-and so less teams have to worry about taking their players out of the game in the middle of the game if they decide to trade them at the deadline.

right, because the rule is that you can't make any deals until the 31st.
