I haven't listened to a ton of Carey, but I'd disagree that he's the best rock drummer alive.

Then as a drummer, I suggest you go listen to some tool right now.

I HATE Maynard or whatever the singers name is. Their video imagery is tired too.

That said, Danny Carey is on a whole other level.

Tool is probably the best band still in existance today. A 9 seed is pitiful.

That said, Danny Carey is the best rock drummer alive, and ranks in the top 10 of all drummers. If you've studied percussion at all you'd realize what an absolute genius he is. His playing is the absolute definition of drumming as an art form.

I like RHCP, don't get me wrong, but against Tool they're a garage band.

I spent about 10 years studying percussion and at least 15 playing the drums and I simply can't stand Tool (not my genre). Thus, I haven't listened to a ton of Carey, but I'd disagree that he's the best rock drummer alive.

Without listening to it, how can you make that judgement?

As I said, I haven't listened to a ton of Carey (or Tool), but I've heard it. Maybe I'd like him more if I liked Tool more, but I just don't care for it.

Thanks for the advice, but as I've said, I've listened to Tool, not a ton, but some. In my opinion, as a drummer, he's not the best drummer alive.

Well...if THIS gentleman was still alive, there'd be no contest as to who was the greatest drummer alive. He was like the Clapton or Hendrix of drums. He did more to advance and influence rock drumming than anyone who ever played, in my opinion

Couldn't agree more and that's some great evidence.

Took me at least a week to learn that drum solo.

I agree completely. I love JB more than any other drummer.

Danny Carey is different though. The stuff he does is more technically complex. Not saying Bonham couldn't do it, just that he didn't.

RHCP, definitely. Minus Californication and By The Way, everything else they have put out has been nothing short of great. Easy vote.

what didn't you like about Californication, i can understand BTW since it turned off alot of people, but Californication was one of their better albums in my mind.

I don't know, I don't like hate it or anything, it's just not one of my favorites. Scar Tissue is excellent, but other than that, nothing on that really catches my interest.

My favorite band of all time (Pink Floyd) has the most "barely competent" drummer in rock history.

With all due respect, that award goes to Meg White.

no, she is barely breathing

Holy crap. Chili Peppers are good but Tool is probably the greatest band of this generation. Musically, lyrically, artistically, or live. Anyway you slice it these guys are incredible.

I've seen both bands live multiple times and RHCP do not hold a candle to Tool.

See, I find Tool to be awful. The best band, lyrically, to me is Streetlight Manifesto. Technical talent would be Lightning Bolt. I've never seen them live, but I've heard LB puts on an insane live show too. Artistically...meh...that can be debated to hell. The White Stripes would be that for me though I guess.

I can't believe tool is going to lose in the first round.

That's awful.

i'm a little surprised myself. Not that they are losing, but that the margin is this wide.
