Do we ever use the same lineup in multiple games?

I understand that today we are facing a tough lefty (Capuano) and last night we faced a tough righty (Oswalt). But, going back to Tuesday night (Pettite), only the top 4 guys in the lineup are the same (including Perez).

It just seems that our coaching staff is just throwing garbage against the wall to see what sticks without any real plan or idea. Shouldn't they have a better idea of their personnel and have settled into a typical lineup by now? Is that too much to ask of a major league baseball team?

In the coaching staff's defense (did I really just say that?), it's not like the Cubs have a lineup that is consistently working. I don't fault Baker for continuously changing it up and looking for the right combination, but I do fault him for running Neifi Perez out there every single day.

There are so many severe platoon splits on this team that running guys out there blindly every day is pretty counterproductive. Jones can't hit lefties, for example while Murton can, and vice versa.

That's true, but at the same time I believe platoon splits can be self-fulfilling prophecies. A hitter struggles for awhile against left-handed pitching, then is platooned and no longer gets to face lefties, which sets him back further if he has to face them in the future and the cycle goes on and on. And so a career platoon player is born.

in the reality, the order of the lineup is far less important than the content. so finding the right combination isn't going to happen until you have good hitters.

All I have to say is that we've been shut out 10 times this year. 10 times. That's ridiculous.

I don't think it really matters where you put people in this lineup. They're still gonna swing at everything and make the pitcher work very little no matter what order they're in. Only way the lineup is going to get better is if Hendry gets better hitters (guys who actually walk and take some pitches) to put in the lineup.
