Pink Floyd is great, but not a number one. This is the Whos' spot.

I disagree, but PF is my favorite band ever.

You'll see The Who very soon

Excellent. Is there another band who had dynamite in their Drum kit and has been on the Simpsons?

Red Hot Chili Peppers, minus the dynamite, plus the tube sock

I'll be interested to see the 15,14, and 13 seeds if Crue barely notched in at 16.

Crue completely dominated an entire music scene for pretty much a decade. Certainly not one of the best, best, tippy top bands of all time----but 16 seems a tad low.

and that music scene is critiscized for having a crapload of fadbands as well as a flat out cookie cutter sound. Van Halen is the only respectable band in that genre IMO.

Uhh, no. Not in my opinon, anyway....nor any of the people I know who lived through it with me :?

Van Halen wasn't part of the same scene. They played the same clubs, but it was a different era. Van Halen had already put out their 2nd multi-platinum album and were playing arenas worldwide with the original Black Sabbath lineup in the '70s before Crue and Hollywood metal even started to resonate.

Shall we call the Doors part of the '80s Metal scene, too? They played all those joints: Roxy, Gazzarris, the Troub, the Whiskey. No, probably not a real good idea.

The Metal scene Motley came up with really took off when Quiet Riot put out their album and it hit #1 on the Charts. After that, every exec on the planet had scores of A&R guys combing Sunset Blvd for hair bands. And every kid who didn't want a job decided to grow his hair and form a band: that's where the problem started. Crue was far, far before all the dilution and crap came.

As for being criticized, every music scene gets criticized for something. Pink Floyd was part of a music scene too. You never hear about all the other bands who opened for them in the clubs because there wasn't such a record company frenzy surrounding it. But it was there. The number of Floyd copy bands that came afterwards was, and remains enormous. And most of them are cookie-cutter, fadbands as well. So........judging the giants of the scene by the mediocre cash-in copies who come afterwards just doesn't fly.

Believe me, I have a lot of respect for Motley Crue. You'll notice that I've only included 3 bands from the "hair metal" era: Motley Crue, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. I think these three rose above the genre and have maintained careers well past the fad (unlike Poison, Warrant, Winger, Slaughter, etc.).

If I could have my way I'd even leave Bon Jovi off. But alas, I cannot. I may not have ever liked their stuff, but the longevity, continued success decades later, the multiple million-selling albums, hit after hit.........can't deny the impact.

They're from Jersey though; gives them a little buffer against the "Hair Band" tag.

Can you tell I've given up on the Cubs? This is more interesting 8)
