of the scoring system, but is Ramon Hernandez the best player in baseball?

I guess that is why this is called fantasy baseball.

The scoring now goes:

  1. Ortiz - DH
  2. Hafner - DH
  3. Beltran - CF
  4. Utley - 2B
  5. Thome - DH
  6. Pujols - 1B
  7. Sizemore - CF
  8. Wright - 3B
  9. Reyes - SS
  10. Hernandez - C
  11. Soriano - LF
  12. Berkman - 1B/RF
  13. Carlos Lee - LF
  14. Miguel Cabrera - 3B
  15. Wells - CF
  16. Tejada - SS
  17. Mauer - C
  18. Ibanez - LF
  19. Bay - LF
  20. Manny - LF

Does that seem so far off?

HR are overrated and SB underrated in this league. Carl Crawford doesnt make that list. Id rather have him than Ortiz who is a 1 dementional player if Im building a real team. That list shows how HR slanted the league is. Some guys that go 4 for 4 will score less than a guy who goes 1for 4 with a solo HR. Whos the better hitter of the 2? My opinion the guy that went 4 for 4. Ichiro not on that list? Thats laughable, just my opinion.

Actually, the HR and the 4-4 are weighted exactly the same, assuming that all four hits are singles. But the hitter also gets credit for every run and RBI he produces, which is why the HR automatically gets six points. If the guy that got four hits can't produce a couple runs or drive in a couple, then maybe those hits really didn't provide the same value.

Personally, my issue with the stats right now is that pitching more innings is going to get you more points. I know we're in the middle of the season, so maybe it isn't something that we'd want to change for this season, but I'd love to have pitchers stats be on a per 9 innings basis. I don't even know if that's possible with the sportsline software.

A lot of the value from pitchers comes from putting in the innings, though. A guy who pitches great for 100 IP doesn't provide the same value as someone who pitches equally well for 220 IP.

I suppose. I guess my problem with it comes back to those that have the time (or the interest) in making pitching changes to make sure that they're bench pitchers are getting in there every day, thus getting more total innings and stats. But I guess that's kinda what was discussed back at the beginning of the season when discussing daily vs weekly lineup changes.

Yup...that's exactly the point I brought up at the time.

Maybe for next year we put a limit on the # of starts in any given week. It would have to be self-policed, though, as I wouldn't have the time to ensure nobody's going over.
