good analogy!

kind of like bunting...everyone complained that we didn't play small ball so dusty turns up the bunting...except no one told him that you don't bunt the 7 hole guy so neifi and the pitcher can try to knock in a run....

Dude,Neifi saved us in 05.

I like Murton, but honestly, I think his best role right now would be platooning with Jones. It would be easier to pick up another decent or big and plug them into LF, if that's even possible without literally selling the farm...and I don't think it is...and I hope it doesn't happen.

I know nuthin'!

yes, if we had a big stick to put out in left, this would be a good idea. with matsui hurt, that is not likely to happen. in the meantime, murton is passable against rhp but jones is not against lhp. so lets find a right-handed platoon partner! I would see if there was any way to get Craig Wilson to play 1b until lee returns and then platoon with murton or even with jones.

He must not be too patient against righties with that kind of OBP. Anyway, I don't have a bias for those players under 26 years old. A .326 OBP sucks whether you're 24 or 34. This team is pathetic. And we're 1-9 in our last ten not because of batting orders, but because this team is just plain bad.

Pitches/PA total for Murton: 3.79

Pitches/PA against righties for Murton: 3.82

Strikeouts/PA total for Murton: .15

Strikeouts/PA against righties for Murton: .16

BA/OBP/SLG total for Murton: .241/.330/.325

BA/OBP/SLG against righties for Murton: .278/.371/.389

I don't think it's that Murton isn't patient. My guess is he's not getting solid wood on the ball against righties. I don't have his LD% splits (Fred?....... if you have this you truly a God among men.......).

A .326 OBP doesn't suck for a 24 year old in his first full year against major league pitching. A .326 is still respectable, especially for a player that we should be looking at as developing, not performing at his hopeful peak level as a Cub.

EDIT2: BTW, when has Dusty ever cared about the splits? Jock jones bats a cool sub-.100 against lefties, and he stubbornly continues to trot him out there to embarrass himself....so why would he even care what Murton's OBP against righties is?

One of them's white? :?

Guys, Murton's .389 slugging ranks 69th of 93 qualified NL players. That's not good. 7th sounds about right to me.
