Cubs Media Release: Cubs to hold Babe Ruth Jersey Day

CUBS TO HOLD BABE RUTH JERSEY DAY

MONDAY, APRIL 24, 2006

 

The Chicago Cubs marketing department today announced that Friday, April 28th marks the first event in the Wrigley Field Historical Series.

 

One hundred random winners will receive a Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection 1932 Babe Ruth road jersey.

 

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for a pre-game ceremony with the Ruth family — which is scheduled to begin at 12:50 p.m. Gates will open at 11:20 a.m., two hours prior to Friday’s 1:20 start.

 

Participating in festivities will be Ruth’s daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens, and Ruth’s grandson, Tom Stevens. They will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and lead the fans in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.

 

This event commemorates Babe Ruth’s alleged “called shot”, one of the most memorable occasions in Wrigley Field history. Ruth hit the “called shot” on October 1, 1932, off Charlie Root in Game 3 of the World Series.

it only took 74 years to address one of the 3 curses. a good step towards winning a World Series in a couple of years imo when the 100 year curse is over.

 

Now if we can only do something about that other curse, we will be in good shape.
