still 6-1 in the top of the sixth, I have no idea who is pitching, but I hope it is still Williams, because that would mean he had his best outing of the spring.

Los Angeles of Anaheim adds two in the sixth. no idea who is pitching.

weird, that's not fair the Angels helping out Arizona like that!

oops. the talk about the Angels in the transaction thread got me thinking that's who they were playing today.

Assuming that Wood and Prior are back by the all-star break, the Cubs will have 8 potential starters (Z, Maddux, Wood, Prior, Williams, Marshall, Guzman, Hill). There is always a market for starters at the break. If the Cubs are out of it, everyone except Z and Prior are available IMO. If they're in it, I would see what Hill, Guzman or Williams could get. And I could be easily swayed for Prior as well.

We should be dealing with the Angels for some of their stud middle infield prospects.

9 with wade miller...

Fer got em but the point is the same. At some point the team will either recognize the emerging abilities of Marshall/Hill/Guz and see what they can get for the others, or keep shuttling pitchers between Iowa and Chicago. Although given the injury history of scertain stud righ handers maybe that's a good option to have. When is it time to see what Wood/Prior can get on the open market, or do we simply see them walk in FA for nothing?

won't the Cubs at least get draft picks for them if they let them walk?

no positive, but I think Wood, yes, Maddux, no. the reason being that Maddux has been a FA already. I think compensation picks only come when the player is a first time FA.

Hey anyone know when the roster has to go down to 25 men. Is it by opening day or before. I'm just wondering when we will go from 27 to 25.

By opening day for sure but I think they have some wiggleroom beforehand.

Looks like Pagan made it, but what about Theriot? anyone know?

The papers say he has a good chance to be the 25th man unless a last minute trade occurs.

Restovich K'd his way down to Iowa. I think The Riot is a shoe in along with Pagan.

Looks like they're keeping 11 pitchers and 14 position players for a change.

you got to give Theriot credit, the guy can't hit all that well, but he can get on base and clog up the bases. heh. We need guys who can takes walks and make the opposing pitchers work harder.

Agreed. With some speed too so someone can run for Barrett late in games. Steal a base when it's needed. He and Pagan should give Dusty a great deal of flexibility late in games as well as insurance against injuries.

ex-Cub report, Mitre takes the loss versus Baltimore today.

In the same game Corey goes 0-3, K, BB LaTroy pitches a scoreless inning and Wellemeyer and Nolasco combine for 2 scoreless innings.

Anaheim (I refuse to call them LA)

Why? That's what their name was originally.

When was that? I thought they were always the California Angels before they changed to Anaheim from the franchise conception. Were they the LA Angels before that?

Yep. LA > California > Anaheim > LA

I'll be. That must have been before I was old enough to follow baseball.

It was in the '60s, when the franchise first came into existance.

Gotta like the youth movement. With Pagan, Theriot, Marshall, Murton, and Cedeno...

Theriot hit over 300 last year in AA. Of course, it was AA and not the bigs. I think if he would get in more consistently he'd show his hitting ability more.

Pagan went off this spring!!

You forgot about Wade Miller, who I'm hoping with regain his form upon his return in late May. He could be a big boost to the rotation.

That's true, and if Sean Marshall works out, then we will be in a very GOOD situation. .

Zambrano, Wood, Miller, Maddux, Marshall.

That's how I'm hoping it will work out right now. Because honestly the way Wood is progressing and the questions surrounding Prior I have more faith that Wood will come back and have a good year this year. Not so much Prior. If all works out we will finally have a good rotation this year! My point is there is more of a chance of it all working out THIS year because we GOT Miller, and we GOT a couple young guns showing some progress. This is exciting. .

finally, I never thought I would see this much youth on a Baker led team.

Agreed. Murton and Cedeno should get an excellent opportunity this year. I'm a little worried about Cedeno at this piont though. I'd hate to give Dusty any ammunition against the kid.

I have no faith in Prior coming back until at least late June and then you have no idea how he's going to hold up? I swear I'd rather have him have some kind of surgury and be done with it. All these Strains and pulls just drive me nuts.

Prior is frustrating, but he still so young and the stuff is there. Take away the liner off the elbow last year and he was a stud.

yes, but let us not forget that Scott McCain goes off every year in Spring.

True, True.

But c'mon Pagan does a lot more then just hit. Plays a very good Defense and is very fast.
