2006 will be my first excursion into fantasy baseball. The league I'm joining has been around for about 10 years and the now their baseball.

I feel I'm pretty knowlegable about the sport, but would appreciate any fantasy tips/ strategies anyone may have to offer.

This league is has pretty basic scoring from what I understand.

Thanks in advance...

Do research before the draft. Be prepared. Try to think of good players that may have gotten injured last season, and get them in the later rounds. I got Pettitte very late last year. Draft the best players available even if you have a player at that position. You can always make a trade.

Try and get 2 teams that way you can trade with yourself. J/K but it seems to happen more than you would think.

Haha. That's why you should know everyone in your league, but if you don't most leagues are set up where people can veto any trade they think is unfair.

Don't micro-manage. The teams that I forget about (free public yahoo teams with no-one I know in them) tend to be the ones that finish the best. Granted, that's probably because everyone else forgot about them too, but leaving your roster set through a short slump often pays dividends.

This one is true. Don't make trades just because you're bored. If you have a need, address it, but as the old addage goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I always find myself overdrafting a bit in later rounds..... for example, if I have all my positions filled and i'm strong in pitching but still haven't found a shortstop and all the decent ones are gone, I'll keep drafting pitching, building up depth enough to make a trade for a good SS using my surplus of pitching.

If there is a chat setup during your draft, I always like a little bit of bluffing. Occasionaly throw some names out there to see wha the interest is. Make guys believe you really want someone to see if they will pick him up, leaving a superior player for you. Don't use this too much though, obviously.

Also, if like in Yahoo, you can pre-rank your players, and you have the time, do it. So many guys are at the bottom of the rankings, nd if you make not of them, you an get 'em cheap.

Try to field a well rounded team, even if it means you have no real superstars, most of the time its better to be good in every category, rather than superb in one, and only fair in another.

In other words, dont just block out any one category, like power (hr, ops, slg) in order to become outstanding in another, like wins (for pitchers, of course). It usually does not work. Well rounded teams always do best.
