if the tejada trade doesn't happen, what will be the repercussions of throwing his name into trade talks? i ask because we know what it did to garciaparra a couple of years back. having thrown his name into these talks, is it a foregone conclusion that he will now be traded?

Along with that how will this effect Prior's attitude?

That would be the question I'd worry about. If it was just crazymlbrumorguy who had this story then I wouldn't be worried about it, but ESPN and Fox had it, as well as the Trib. I hope it only helps to get the Cubs sold to Mark Cuban so that we can keep Prior. And maybe get some PS2s for the players.

Well heck, I'd settle for Billy Beane or Theo Epstein as GM! :p

his attitude and how it would affect his relationship with the cubs org is what i was referring to. so if this is really what's happened - we offered him up - does JH have to see a trade of some sort thru having burned bridges, or can he patch things up?

Which has to make you wonder how Hendry allows something like this to be leaked? And then when it was, why he didn't deny the rumors? I guess pissing off one of our franchise players is the only stupid thing we hadn't yet done this offseason until now (maybe).

Why would we care what tejada thinks about the orioles trying to trade him after he asked for a trade?

Who cares what Prior's "feelings" are. Just perform. That's what you're paid to do.

so far as it affects his production, i'm not worried. he's a professional and he'll give 100%. now, i don't know how it will affect his contract negotiations in the future, and that's really the only thing to worry about. oh well, we'll probably have a new GM by then anyway, so i doubt it will have any negative effect.

For future negotiations, it's to his advantage to have solid seasons. He'll be looking for a big contract from the Cubs (or somebody else) and "potential" won't get it.

i think you misunderstood me. i don't think for a minute that he'll tank even one pitch. i just hope that he's not completely uopset with hendry and in the process of ruling out re-signing in the future.
